The Cannon Connection
2025-2026 Newsletter for Cannon Elementary Families
May 10-16, 2026
Good morning, Cannon families,
Let me start by taking a moment to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love shown to our staff last week. Our teachers and team members are still beaming (and perhaps still enjoying a few treats!) thanks to your overwhelming kindness. A huge thank you to Our Amazing Families for your generosity and thoughtful gestures truly made our educators feel seen and valued. To Our Fabulous PTA, THANK YOU for organizing such a fun, creative, and celebratory week. You truly went above and beyond to make every day special! We are so incredibly lucky to have such a warm, welcoming, and loving Cannon Community. Thank you for partnering with us and for showing our teachers just how much they mean to all of us!
What a Week to Remember! 🌟 Last week was an absolute whirlwind of fun, creativity, and physical excellence across our campus. We are so proud of the energy and talent our students displayed!
🎭 Pirates! The Musical: WOW! Our very first theatrical musical performance was a resounding success. We are sending an enormous round of applause to Ms. Rios, Mr. Porter, and our incredibly talented cast and crew. You brought the house down and set the bar high for future performances!
🏃♂️ Field Day Success: A huge shout-out to Coach G and our Specials Team for running such a seamless and high-energy event. From the competitive spirit to the pure joy on the field, it was an "excellent" day of play for everyone involved!
Get ready to inspire the next generation! Our Annual Career Day is this Friday, and we couldn't be more excited to open our doors to the world of professional possibilities. This is one of our favorite traditions at Cannon, where our students get a firsthand look at the diverse paths their futures might take. From healthcare and technology to the arts and trades, we love seeing our Cubs' eyes light up as they learn about "a day in the life" of different professionals.
Congratulations to our Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st grade inductees for receiving our Final STEM Hall of Fame Habit o Mind for Striving for Excellence!
STEM teaching and learning is an instructional approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through STEM education practices, students develop key skills including: problem solving, creativity, and critical analysis. We are PROUD to honor our scholars for exhibiting STEM thinking!
Wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers, grandmothers, and incredible female role models in our community. Whether you spend the day relaxing or being celebrated by your kiddos, we hope your weekend was filled with the same love and joy you bring to our school every day. We are so grateful for everything you do to support our students and help them grow. Thank you for being the heart of our families!
Proud to be your principal,
Dr. Tina Garrett

As the school year comes to an end we are learning about Courage & Creativity in guidance lessons. Sometimes we need courage to be creative when solving problems and trying to do new things. Many of us have seen people practice these character traits in ways that have inspired us. Stories are powerful tools for connecting as a family. Take time to share stories how you all have shown courage and creativity.
