Protecting Our Schools
Schools are meant to be a safe place and WE ALL play a role in school safety. We need to work together, as a community and as Titans, to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
Families, please have conversations with your student(s) to explain the seriousness of threats, how jokes or a comment could be taken as a threat, and how students are part of the process of being the eyes and ears of our schools and keeping our schools safe. Students should be observant and let an adult know if they see or hear something that makes them feel uncomfortable, nervous or fearful. Parents should be vigilant in monitoring their children’s social media and online behavior.
We take all threats seriously. Any threat, whether credible or not, will always be investigated and we will immediately work with law enforcement to protect our schools. Repercussions for any student making a threat, credible or not, can be serious--both in terms of school discipline and criminal prosecution.
I want to reassure our BCSD school community that the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We all have to work together to keep each other safe and keep our schools a safe learning environment for everyone.
Remember, students and community members can anonymously report anything that is suspicious or endangering them, their friends or their school.

Last month, a panel of BCSD administrators and School Resource Officers presented on District Safety and Security. The presentation was recorded for those unable to attend the event.
2021-2022 Quality Profile
The Berea City School District’s Quality Profile is a companion piece to the state report card that takes a focused look at what our school district and our students are doing beyond test scores. You will learn about innovative learning experiences, advanced placement scores and so much more as you explore the academics, arts, student experiences and activities, educational support services, parent and community involvement, and fiscal stewardship of our district. We are very proud of the well-rounded educational experience and extra-curricular opportunities we are able to provide our students.
Big Creek Gym Takeover
The Cleveland Browns, Grant Delpit, and Chomps hosted a 'Gym Class Takeover' at Big Creek Elementary on September 27. Students had a great time doing football skills drills with Grant and Chomps!
October is National Principals Month
October is National Principals Month, and the Berea City School District is proud to celebrate our amazing school leaders alongside the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA), the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
Our principals have made a great difference in the lives of students and staff. We are fortunate to have this team leading the way for our schools. Thank you to our wonderful BCSD principals and assistant principals, who go to extraordinary lengths to ensure students, families, teachers, and staff members are valued and supported every day.

BMHS STUDENTS NAMED NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM SEMIFINALISTS
Seniors Isabella Baglier and Dimitry Ermakov join more than 16,000 students nationwide in being selected as National Merit Scholarship Program Corporation (NMSC) semifinalists.
These academically talented students have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. About 95 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and approximately half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
“We could not be prouder of these students for their accomplishments,” said Dr. Mark Smithberger, BMHS Principal. “Even through the challenges of a pandemic, they have persevered and shown what it means to "Be A Titan."
NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 340 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC's goals of honoring the nation's scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence. National Merit Scholarship winners of 2023 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July.
District financial information such as our annual financial reports, forecasts, budget documents, etc., can be found on the district website under the Treasurer's Department page or by using the QR code.
The Berea Board of Education holds regular community conversations to give the public access to board members outside of the formal public participation setting of a meeting. Residents will have the opportunity to meet and discuss any concerns they may have with two board members during a 30 minute time-slot set aside prior to each Board of Education meeting in 2022. The goal of this effort is to more effectively connect with the public and learn more about the community. Visit our website at www.berea.k12.oh.us/boe for a list of 2022 meeting dates.
