Dear families.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to our amazing PTO for a spectacular Enchanted Forest Dance! We had great attendance. The artwork was amazing and everyone had a blast. It is so nice to come together in times like these.

Next week our third graders will be taking the Vermont Comprehensive Assessment Program (VTCAP) in English language arts and mathematics. Please make sure your third grader is well rested and on time next week. The teachers have planned some extra fun activities to celebrate their hard work afterwards.

Message to 2nd & 3rd Grade Families from Fleming School

Dear Summit and Hiawatha 2nd and 3rd Grade Students and Families,

We hope you are doing well and feeling excited for the transition to Fleming for next year. We are excited for our community to grow a bit larger with the addition of 3rd grade to Fleming. We also know that transitions can cause some worries and anxieties that we hope to reduce through a variety of transition activities and experiences.

Please join us on Tuesday April 15th from 5:00 - 6:00 pm for our transition kick-off open house. This is an opportunity to learn about Fleming, meet our faculty and staff, and tour the building. Our hope is that students and families will leave excited about coming to Fleming!

In addition, if you would like to come to Fleming for an additional time to drop in and see the building more and familiarize yourselves with Fleming, we will have drop in times available on Monday April 7th and Monday April 28th from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Please use this google form to sign up for a visit and let us know if you are planning to attend a drop in date.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Important Update: Youth Art Month Reception Time Change Important Update: Youth Art Month Reception Time Change

Dear Families,

I just received news about a change for tomorrow's Art Show reception:

Important Update: Youth Art Month Reception Time Change

Due to an unexpected staffing shortage with the Capitol Police, we have had to adjust the timing of tomorrow's Youth Art Month Art Show Reception. The event will now take place from 3:30–5:00 PM at the Vermont State House, in the cafeteria located on the second level.

I am disappointed, as I know it may affect whether some of you can come. I am so sorry. I probably can't get there until 4 pm, but I will be there as soon as possible. I appreciate your understanding.

Sincerely,

Cassandra Gengras, M.Ed.

Message from Mr. B in Gym Message from Mr. B in Gym

All grades have had a lot of fun practicing their striking skills during a high energy game called, Gaga Ball. Normally this game is played in an octagonal pit, but we modified it to work in our space by changing the rules and adding more than one ball.

Younger students practiced tennis skills by striking balloons with lollipop paddles and older kids played “Elimination” with racquets and real tennis balls. Be sure to ask your kids about “ABC Balances”, “Rope Swing”, “Balance Beam”, “Pac Man Tag”, “Caterpillar Tag”, “Mission Impossible”, “Bean Bag Toe Tag”, and “Just Getting By”.

PTO Update PTO Update

Thank you to everyone who attended our Enchanted Forest Dance! It was a packed house and fun was had by all. We also raised a lot of money from our snack table, all of which will go right back to Hiawatha PTO.

Speaking of fundraisers, don’t forget to scan those Hannaford Helps Schools receipts and choose Hiawatha Elementary as the beneficiary. Hannaford Helps is an easy program that lets you earn cash from your weekly shopping trip to donate to our school. Let’s take advantage of this opportunity while it lasts!

Square One Art is upon us! Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the order form in your child’s Friday Folder! Order yourself a keepsake or buy a gift for a loved one and benefit Hiawatha School with art made by your child!
