The SHARK Alert
Chatham Elementary School Community Update
December 15, 2024
Dear CES SHARKS & Friends,
Welcome to the last full week of school in the 2024 calendar year! During the holiday season, we try to take a pause here and there to reflect and express our gratitude for all that we have been gifted. CES is a wonderful place to be in every day - our students, staff, and families are the best around!
This coming week we have some special events at CES. On Wednesday there will be a SHARK Assembly. Students are encouraged to wear their SHARK Gear. We will be joined by the MRHS Show Choir at the Shark Assembly. On Friday, we will celebrate our final day of school in 2024 with an ALL SCHOOL PAJAMA DAY! Students and teachers are encouraged to wear their comfiest, coziest, and craziest holiday pajamas.
Enjoy the week ahead. Have a wonderful December Break and we look forward to welcoming our SHARKS back to school on Thursday, January 2, 2025!
Wishing you peace and joy,
Dr. Kelly
Ticket Winners
As you may know, when our SHARKS are caught exhibiting a SHARK expectation (being safe, honest, accepting, respectful, kind, or successful) they receive a recognition ticket. Students then place their tickets in their classroom box and each week our 4th-grade ticket counting crew counts all of the tickets and randomly selects one winner from each class to pick out a SHARK Prize.
Congratulations to last week's Ticket Raffle Winners.

Dragon - The Official CES SHARK
Did you know that CES has it's very own Great White Shark? Dragon, as named by the students of CES is an Atlantic Great White Shark. The Atlantic White Shark Conservatory (AWSC) in Chatham allowed us to name this impressive, young male shark. Dragon is a tagged shark and you can follow his journey by visiting the AWSC website at: https://shiny.atlanticwhiteshark.org/logbook/
You'll notice that Dragon tends to visit Cape Cod in November and he is a fan of the Cape Cod Bay area. The AWSC gathers their tracking data on Dragon (any many other tagged sharks) though the use of tracking buoys deployed in the waters of Cape Cod.
Our 4th grade students work closely with the AWSC and their educators over the course of the year. They will be examining Dragon's patterns of travel, as well as other shark information. There is so much to learn about the wildlife in the waters of Cape Cod. We hope all CES SHARKS take some time to learn about Dragon and the many wild sharks who call Chatham & Cape Cod their home.

CES PTO Updates
The CES PTO held a meeting on Tuesday, November 19th. Thank you to all those who were able to attend - it was great to see some new faces! If you would like to be part of the PTO mailing list, please click on this PTO sign up form. You will receive information about all upcoming events. Every parent/caregiver is welcome, and encouraged, to join the PTO.
PTO meetings take place at 6:00 pm on the second Tuesday of each month in the CES Media Center. Zoom links will be provided to those who cannot attend in person. Our next meeting is January 14, 2025. There will be no December PTO meeting.
The PTO is also looking for room parents. Room parents coordinate with the classroom teacher for special school wide events, field trips, and class activities. Room parents will also represent classrooms at PTO meetings and share information between the PTO and classroom families. You can express your interest in becoming a room parent by filling out the PTO sign up form above.

Reminders for Families
Please call the Main Office at 508-945-5135 or use Pick Up Patrol to report student absences. Our classroom teachers are often unable to check their email prior to the start of school and the Main Office and Nurse's Office don't learn of the email before they begin calling home. Contacting the Main Office or using Pick Up Patrol are the best ways to inform the school of an absence.
