Principal's Message

Dear Mary M. Knight Families,

Welcome to the week of April 21st! As we continue through spring, I'm excited about the many opportunities our students have to demonstrate their growth and learning both in and out of the classroom

.

Our athletics program is bustling with activity this week, with multiple competitions for our golf, baseball, and track teams. I encourage you to check the detailed schedule in this newsletter and come support our Owls! Wednesday is a late start day, giving our staff valuable time for professional development and collaboration to better serve your children.

April's Character Strong trait is "Courage," and our staff is working to help students develop this important quality. You can reinforce these lessons at home using the resources in the Courage Family Newsletter included in this update. We're also proud to continue our GRIT awards, recognizing students who show Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity. Congratulations to all our elementary and secondary GRIT honorees listed in this newsletter!

The PTO blanket fundraiser is underway, with pre-sales ending May 5th. These cozy owl blankets make wonderful gifts while supporting valuable resources for our school. If you're interested in getting more involved, please join us for the next PTO meeting on May 14th at 3:30 pm in the elementary library.

Finally, remember to use Skyward Family Access to stay updated on your child's academic progress. If you need assistance accessing this valuable tool, please contact Shantel Freeman at the information provided

.

Thank you for your continued partnership in education. Together, we are building a community of learners and leaders united to enrich the lives of all our students.

Mr. Stoney

Parent Family Access

Did you know that as a parent or guardian you have access to Skyward to see your child's grades, attendance, discipline, and much more?

As parent of a child at Mary M. Knight, families have access to a parent portal of skyward where you can log on. From there you can access to see what your child's most updated grades are, their attendance as well as excuse them through family access, and much mor information. This is a great communication tool to help families stay on to of their child's progress at MMK. You can access the Skyward family access link at the district website or click on the link bellow. We have also included a short video on logging in and the information you can find.

For any question regarding your family access account, please contact Shantel Freeman at (360)426-6767 or sfreeman@mmk.wednet.edu

Weekly GRIT students

Last year, we had a theme of Above-The-Line and recognized student that were that demonstrated characteristics or actions of being Above-The-Line. This year we will continue our student recognition program as part of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program with our positive referrals and weekly GRIT awards.

GRIT Awards - In the 2024-25 academic year, we're all about embracing 'Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence' as our guiding principle. We believe that having GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity – is key to creating a culture where challenges are seen as stepping stones to greatness. We want to foster a growth mindset in our students and ourselves, understanding that hard work and dedication can help us develop our abilities and intelligence. Student will be nominated weekly if they are demonstrating characteristics of GRIT. Student will receive a certificate and shared out.
