RCES Families,

We hope everyone enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend! With a short week behind us and a little cooler weather beginning to roll in, it’s hard to believe we are already approaching the midpoint of Quarter 1.

Our routines are underway, expectations have been established, and our teachers and students are working hard each day. As we move deeper into the quarter, one of our biggest priorities is maximizing every minute of instructional time and making sure our students are getting the very best from their school day.

Interim reports will come home Friday, September 18. This is a great opportunity to check in on your child’s progress, celebrate what is going well, and identify areas where a little extra practice or support may be helpful.

Families are such an important part of this work! You can help us make these next few weeks count by:

  • Minimizing unnecessary absences and getting students to school on time
  • Keeping consistent bedtimes so students arrive rested and ready to learn
  • Asking your child about their day—and not just, “How was school?” Try asking, “What did you learn today?”
  • Reading together at home
  • Practicing vocabulary and spelling words
  • Reviewing math facts for just a few minutes each evening

Small routines at home, paired with strong instruction at school, can make a big difference for our kids.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us, encourage our students, and help us make every school day count. 💙💛

Have a great weekend, RCES Families!

Sincerely,

Dr. Lowe-Barton & Dr. Slaney

RAAC announces auditions for “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” to be staged the first

two weekends in December. In this classic tale by C.S. Lewis, what begins as a simple game of

hide and seek quickly turns into the adventure of a lifetime as four children walk through a

wardrobe and into the land of Narnia. The show will be directed by Hugh Hill, who says there

are parts for young actors of all ages, with a limited number of roles for adults as well.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 29 (2 - 4 pm) and Sunday, August 30 (2 - 4 pm) at the

Trinity Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 379 Gay Street, Washington VA 22747. It would be helpful

to register online but not required (raac.org/auditions). Individual auditions can also be

scheduled by appointment if necessary (contact stage manager Beth Plentovich at

ebplen@gmail.com or 540-675-1059 if you can’t come on Aug 29 or 30).
