Google Meets Guidelines

East Hampton High students are returning to full in-person learning on Monday, March 22. As a result, our teachers will be focusing on larger in-person classes. Therefore, there is no Hybrid option or the ability to GOOGLE MEET into the classroom. There are only 3 specific cases in which students will be allowed to GOOGLE MEET into classes:
  1. Students who are quarantining: This will hopefully be a very limited number of students as time goes on.
  2. Students who are COVID-19 positive: This should be an even smaller number.
  3. Students who are awaiting results from COVID-19 testing:

Teachers will have links posted as soon as possible during the day for students. Please be patient as information is constantly changing and Google Meet Links may not be available right at the beginning of the school day due to communication or teacher absences.

The Art Studio is busy this semester with sculptures of all kinds for the 3D Design 1 and 2 classes. While these artists were in cohorts at home they created copper relief sculptures of important landmarks and Styrofoam sculptures inspired by the work of Tara Donovan. At school, clay sculptures were done using the pinch pot and slab methods. Students completed an additive/subtractive pinch pot to get the feel of the clay and then continued with slab constructed wall pockets to culminate the unit on relief sculpture. The studio is now buzzing with full in person learning and students are here working hard to create large, exposed coil vessels

East Hampton Prevention Partnership

The East Hampton Prevention Partnership would like to thank all that were able to attend our Virtual Hidden in Plain Sight Presentation. If you learned something interesting about products teens are using and use to hide them, please pass that information along to friends and family. If you missed the presentation, here are some online resources that you can check out on your own time.

Our neighboring state of Rhode Island has an awesome Online Virtual Hidden in Plain Sight Bedroom. Please click this link: https://www.riprevention.org/get-involved/ to look through a mock bedroom.

Some of the resources we talked about during the HIPS presentation were:

Netflix Docuseries "Broken - The Big Vape" This investigative docuseries shows how negligence and deceit in the production and marketing of popular consumer items can result in dire outcomes. This would be are really good show to watch with your teens, as it would make a great conversation starter.

Some websites with tons of resources:

https://tobaccofreeca.com/

https://flavorshookkidsct.org/

Specifically aimed at parents with information on vaping products targeted at kids.

It was pretty eye opening to what extend companies target market teens with items to hide alcohol, pills, weed, dab, and vaping paraphernalia.

To like our facebook page find us at https://www.facebook.com/easthamptonpp . We will be posting a series of follow-up resources to this presentation within the coming weeks.

Hopefully next school year we will be able to offer a live version of HIPS, as was planned a year ago.

English Department News

The EHHS Journalism class welcomed USA Today journalist, Morgan Hines, via Google Meet! Students turned the tables on Ms. Hines and interviewed her about her career, education, and more. Ms. Hines shared her love for collecting information and breaking stories that are meaningful and life changing. She also shared her initial fears of interviewing Matthew McConaughey, but, to the delight of the students, she discovered that McConaughey is one of the kindest celebrities around! The class wrote “Thank You Letters” to Ms. Hines. Here are a few highlights:

Dear Morgan Hines,

I am writing this letter to you to say thankyou for letting us interview you. It was super interesting to learn about you and your job as a journalist. I loved learning about how you've only been a journalist for about two years, but have already accomplished so much in that time. When you talked about how you can learn something every day, I found that super cool and fascinating. Thank you again for spending time out of your day to talk to us about yourself and your job. It was definitely an experience we will remember.

Dear Morgan,

Thank you so much for letting us interview you yesterday. It was really interesting to be able to interview an actual journalist! I think it is so amazing how you like writing stories about people in need. I loved being able to hear about how passionate you were writing about the cruise ship members. I read the article the night before and could already see how much emotion and feeling went into your writing. You are really great at getting across to your readers and keeping them interested. I am so thankful that we were able to interview you. Thanks again!
