3-5th Grade MAP Testing Starts April 22 3-5th Grade MAP Testing Starts April 22

MAP testing for 3-5th grade students starts April 22.

Consistent student attendance is very important during this time. State assessments are an opportunity for our students to demonstrate what they have learned throughout the year. When students are present, well-rested, and on time, they are better able to focus, feel confident, and do their best.

Absences during testing can create additional stress for students, as make-up testing often takes place in less familiar settings and may disrupt their regular routine. Being present on scheduled testing days helps ensure a smoother, more comfortable experience.

Family Fun Night Donations Needed: We are seeking gift basket donations for Family Fun Night on May 8! Please share this message with businesses you know! Those interested in donating can email us at pta.nashua@gmail.com.

Family Fun Night Volunteers Needed: Family Fun Night is 5:30-7:00 Friday, May 8! Join us for a night of nearly free fun with games, music, a photo booth, face painting, balloon artists, a silent auction, and food trucks available for purchase.

To make this event happen, we need game makers and teen helpers!

Game Makers: Each of Nashua's classrooms will be hosting a game or activity. We need parent volunteers to make, set up and tear down the class activity that night (set up between 4:30- 5:15). This game can be anything fun that you can come up with. Talk with your classroom teacher to get ideas or email pta.nashua@gmail.com for help. Please put down the game that you will be doing and if you need a table for your game. PTA is working on recruiting teens to run the games, so you will not need to stay with it! Kids will vote for their favorite activity that night — if your class wins, you win a prize, too!

Prizes for Games: If you would like to donate prizes for your classroom, please sign up! The prizes can be stickers, tattoos, fidget toys (very popular), fruit snacks, or anything little for kids to win! These items can be dropped off before May 6, in the office for PTA to pick up!

Teen Helpers: Need service hours? Teen helpers are needed between 5:15-7:30 p.m. to help run the games or activities! Details are on the sign up. We hope you can help!

Attendance Reminders Attendance Reminders

We wanted to take a moment to reiterate that we want every student at school EVERY DAY and ALL DAY.

LEAVING EARLY - Please refrain from picking your students up an hour or so early. Leaving early does impact attendance and students miss out on important instruction. Nashua teachers are providing instruction to students up until 4:00pm, so it is important for students to stay at school through dismissal.

ARRIVING LATE - It is also important for students to be at Nashua by 9:15am. We have noticed some students are chronically coming in late to school. Instruction starts right at 9:20am and we need students in their seats at that time.

THANK YOU for making it a priority to have your child at Nashua from 9:15am - 4:10pm every day!

It is important that your child attends school on time, every day.

The NKC SCHOOL BOARD POLICY states:

When a child is enrolled in NKC Schools, the North Kansas City Schools Board of Education expects:

1. The student to attend school regularly.

2. Parents/guardians of the student to communicate regularly with the office staff regarding the student’s absences.

3. Every student should strive for 95% or above attendance. (State guidelines deem attendance rates of 95% or better as necessary for optimal learning).

OTHER IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE INFORMATION:

1. If your child is not maintaining attendance above 93%, you will be notified immediately. If the attendance keeps dropping, Nashua staff/administration will reach out and ask you to come to the school for a meeting to discuss attendance concerns and complete an attendance contract.

2. If your student’s attendance continues to fall, the school is required by state law to report all instances of educational neglect, including poor school attendance, to Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect hotline.

3. Regular attendance and punctuality help students develop and maintain a good attitude toward school and relate positively toward school achievement. Tardiness and absences can be upsetting for students, disrupting their schedules, requiring readjustment to the class routine, and interfering with learning. Even missing just a couple days here and there can negatively impact a students' learning progression.

Please make your child's attendance a priority this year. We appreciate your help in ensuring your child is at school on time, every day!
