Timber Talks
River Mill Elementary - June 5, 2026
Dear River Mill Families,
What an exciting week it’s been at River Mill! Many of our students had the opportunity to participate in field trips, Career Day, and our Spring Fling celebration. We are incredibly grateful to all the families and community members who volunteered their time and energy to make these events both meaningful and memorable. Our students represented our school with pride, positivity, and respect, we couldn’t be prouder. Thank you for your continued support in making River Mill such a special place to learn and grow!
We have an exciting final week of school ahead and so much more in store for our students! Each day counts, so please continue to send your child to school on time, ready to learn, grow, and make the most of every moment. We can’t wait to finish the year strong together!

Thank You, Career Fair Presenters!
A huge thank you to all of the community members, family members, and professionals who volunteered their time to present at our Career Fair this week. Our students had the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of careers, ask thoughtful questions, and gain valuable insights into the many paths available to them in the future. The presenters were engaging, knowledgeable, and generous with their time, and our students learned so much from the experience.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to our school counselors for organizing this wonderful event! Their hard work and coordination made it possible for students to connect with professionals from our community and explore future opportunities. We are grateful for everyone who helped make this year's Career Fair such a meaningful and successful experience!

Be On Time, Stay All Day!
At River Mill, we want to ensure every student has the best opportunity to learn and grow each day. Recently, we’ve noticed an increase in tardies and early pick-ups, and we want to remind families how important it is for students to be at school on time and stay for the full day. Arriving late can cause students to miss important instruction, while leaving early means they may not get the full benefit of their learning time. Every minute in the classroom matters! We understand that occasional appointments and emergencies happen, but whenever possible, please schedule these outside of school hours. Thank you for your support in making sure your child gets the most out of their school day!
Attendance Matters!
We have already noticed a drop in student attendance, and we want to take a moment to stress how important it is for students to be at school—on time—every day. Consistent attendance builds strong learning habits, helps students keep up with important instruction, and supports both their academic and social growth. Thank you for partnering with us to make sure your child is present and ready to learn each day!
Research shows that when students miss just one day of school each month, it can add up to weeks of lost learning over the course of a year, which makes a significant impact. Regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student achievement, as it ensures children don’t miss key lessons, group activities, and opportunities to practice new skills with their peers.
We know mornings can be busy, and sometimes life throws curveballs, but your efforts to get your child to school on time each day make a big difference. Thank you for partnering with us to build strong routines and support your child’s success—we are here to help every step of the way!
River Mill Elementary Title I Parent Involvement Plan
At River Mill Elementary, we are committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed. Through our Title I program, we work together with teachers, parents, and students to provide the support and resources needed to help every student thrive in reading and beyond. We recognize the importance of forming a strong partnership with families and community members in order to positively impact the students in our school. We value input from parents, guardians, and community members in decision making. Please review the attached document to view our process for engaging families as partners in the educational process.

Cell Phones and Personal Electronic Devices
Cell phones and personal electronic devices need to be put in student’s backpack bell to bell. A personal electronic device—commonly referred to as a ‘cell phone’—is any device capable of making and receiving calls, sending text messages, or accessing the internet independently from the school’s network. This includes, but is not limited to, smartphones, flip phones, tablets, e-readers, smartwatches, smart glasses, and other web-capable devices, as well as the headphones or earbuds connected to them. In alignment with Executive Order 25-09 from the Oregon Governor’s Office (and ESD policy JFCEB), we will be following the guidance that electronic devices not be used during the school day. Students who disobey this rule or are in noncompliance with this rule, will have a conversation with the staff member to be reminded of the expectations on their first offense. For a second offense, the cell phone will be taken to the office until the end of the day. Parents will be notified and a meeting with school administration will be set up. If there is a third offense, the device will again be temporarily held, parents will be informed, and another meeting will be set up. Beyond a third instance of noncompliance, the school will determine appropriate consequences, always prioritizing keeping students in class and engaged in learning. The Elementary Schools will not be responsible for loss or damage to students’ cell phones or personal electronic devices brought to school.
