A Message from Our Principal

The start of our second semester of school has gone well and the Loess Hills staff and I are eager to make sure all students learn everything that is expected of them this year. In order to do that, the staff and I certainly need your help. Please make sure that your student is at school on time every single day, unless they are seriously ill. Our instructional staff cannot help them if they are not here and it is extremely difficult to help them if students miss more than seven days for the entire year. The Iowa Statewide Assessments of Students Progress, our major test of the year for grades 3rd -5th, will be given from April 28-May 15.

Teachers will be aggressively preparing for those tests every single day and students cannot afford to miss school. Thank you very much for supporting your child(ren’s) education by having your students at school on time every day.

Also thank you to everyone who is staying calm and respectful to others before and after school as students are dropped off and picked up. Student and family safety is the most important thing and I thank everyone for obeying our traffic rules and being great role models to our children who are always watching for our adult examples. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mr. Beeck

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration has been scheduled for March 26th & 27th 2020, and we are anxious to identify children eligible to begin kindergarten in August. To be eligible for kindergarten, your child must be five (5) years old on or before September 15, 2020, and they need to have completed the required immunizations.

If you have a student that would be of Kindergarten age but has a late birthday or may not quite be ready for Kindergarten, we do have a TK (Transitional Kindergarten) classroom. Please contact Lynn Foster at 712-279-6677 if you would be interested in TK for your child for the upcoming school year.

Perhaps you know of other children in Loess Hills school district who may be eligible to enter kindergarten next fall. If the family does not have children in our school, please inform them to call the school office at 712-279-6843 to register their child.

If your student will be 5 on or before September 15, and will be attending Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten in the 2020-21 School Year, you must complete the Online Pre-Registration for New Kindergarten Students, prior to your school’s Kindergarten Registration date(s). Pre-register here: https://campus.siouxcityschools.org/campus/OLRLoginKiosk/siouxcity

Box Tops for Education

We are collecting Box Tops! Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout a store. You can still clip and send them to school.

Every valid Box Tops clip is worth 10¢ for Loess Hills. Make sure each one has a clearly visible product acronym and expiration date.

Box Tops - New Scanning Feature

Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label.

If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for Loess Hills. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to our school's earnings online.

District and School Climate Survey: Coming Soon

Every voice matters in Sioux City Community Schools. That’s why we need to hear from all parents and guardians. Provide feedback using our District and School Climate Survey, which is open February 4 - March 13. The survey is available in English or Spanish.

How to take the survey:

· A link will be sent to parents/guardians by email, text message, and voicemail.

· If you do not receive a link, please contact 712-224-7471 to request a link.

· Paper surveys are available for pick up at your child’s school.

· Take the survey online at your child’s school while at conferences.

The survey asks for feedback on student and academic support, safety and behavior, school leadership, and family involvement. We will use the results to better understand our students’ needs, determine our strengths, and identify opportunities for improvement.

All survey responses are strictly confidential. The District has partnered with an independent research and communications firm, K12 Insight, to administer the survey and compile the results. District employees will not know who participates or see individual responses.

If you have questions, please contact Mandie Mayo, Director of Communications, at mayoa@live.siouxcityschools.com.

Communication and Preparedness

Student and staff safety is of paramount importance in the Sioux City Community School District. For this reason, the District exercises a host of crisis prevention and planning tactics. Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
