So You Think You Know Bayport & Blue Point??
Date: Thursday May 15, 2025
Presenter: Frank Giebfried
Place: BBP Library
Time: 7:00-9:00 PM
Join us to test your knowledge of the local history of our twin communities of Bayport & Blue Point! Our great local historian Gene Horton created this program before he left us. Using Gene's questions, BBPHA member Frank Giebfried has added a few more and created a slideshow with photos for what will be a fun trivia game. And don't worry about getting a question wrong, only you will see your answer sheet. Participation is encouraged! This program is open to all.

The Blue Point Bible Church
These articles first appeared in the Bayport Blue Point Gazette and were written by Gene Horton. They are reprinted here with permission.
May 2006
This stately brick church is located at the corner of Blue Point Ave. and Maple Street in Blue Point. The congregation dates back to 1865. This postcard view of the church was dated 1936. The church was built between 1930 and 1931. The church was dedicated 75 years ago on June 28, 1931. The steeple rises to a height of seventy-five feet. The church tower contains a large bell, a Seth Thomas clock, and is topped by a handmade weather vane. On the large bell in the tower is engraved: "In Memory of Deacon Wilfred Horton, 1868-1926; Given by his Mother." The three main windows on each side of the church have a total of sixty-six panes of glass: the total number of books in the Bible: the top panes number 39 (the number of books in the Old Testament) and the bottom panes, 27 (the number of books in the New Testament).
Even the exterior bricks were fired especially for this church. It cost $35,000 to construct the church. The sanctuary can seat over 150 people. Albert Humble of NYC was the architect of the church. The organ pipes are cleverly concealed behind a wooden screen in the church's ceiling. The communion table is an exact replica of the one on which the Mayflower Compact was signed in 1620. Rev. I.A. Falk was pastor here from 1946 until his retirement in 1966.
In 1988, a $15,000 bell carillon was installed in the church in memory of George E. Densing, an active member of the church. Since 1986, Rev. Clair E. Chandler has served as pastor of the church. In 1994, the church changed its name to the Blue Point Bible Church. Each summer, this church sponsors a Vacation Bible School and during the school year, both a pre-school and after school program.
