Gold Rush Elementary

Students in all grade levels practice modeling and reasoning in math daily. When students reason abstractly and quantitatively they make sense of numbers and numerical relationships. When students model they use equations, diagrams, pictures and graphs to solve real world problems. See the thinking habits below for further explanation of these math practices. The Envision Math Curriculum provides students with ample opportunities to solve these multi-step word problems.

This week fourth graders created their own seasonal math problems that required them to model and reason. They demonstrated both creativity and an ability to apply these mathematical practices as they solved peer’s winter themed problems.

We are proud of all students' desire to use multiple strategies and practices as they think deeply in math.

Gold Rush is excited to begin our Library remodel during winter break! School staff will begin packing books over the break so painting, electrical and shelf removal can start upon our return. New shelving, seating and furniture is scheduled to arrive at the end of January and installation will begin in mid February.

As you can imagine, packaging, storing and unpacking over 15,000 books is a large task! The library will be closed in January and February to make the transformation possible this year. Librarian, Mrs. Golish, will hold library lessons in the classroom during these months. We are unable to accommodate book check out during the remodel; however, students will continue to have access to online libraries, including EPIC books and RAZ kids. Classroom teachers will reshare how to access these online resources in the coming weeks.

Our remodel is made possible through our Digger Dash Dollars and school funds. We thank our parent community for contributing to this meaningful project. We feel fortunate that our strong financial position and our community contributions allow us to complete a full remodel.
