New Hashtag Promotes Pride New Hashtag Promotes Pride

Everyone knows there is a lot of pride in Burgettstown. We want to find a way to link all things Blue Devil. When Mr. Krzeczowski, himself a 1988 graduate of Burgettstown, assumed the role of Athletic Director, he floated the idea of using the hashtag #True2TheBlue. Its catchiness caught on with those he talked to, and it began to take root. Sure, other groups and organizations from near and far may also use it, but to us here at the Burgettstown Area School District, it is a way to bring young and old together under one "moniker," demonstrating pride in the surrounding communities and pride in the Burgettstown Area School District. Look for it on our social media posts and other electronic communications.

Getting to Know Each Other

During the first week of school, students in Ms. Egal's class completed "Hexagonal One-Pagers." This assignment asks the students to show information about themselves with words and images. They then arrange the hexagons so that the only information they have in common were were touching, prompting interesting conversations about their similarities.

Back to School

Burgettstown students returned to the classroom on Monday, August 30th! Here's looking forward to a great 2021-2022 school year!

Transition in the District Office Transition in the District Office

On September 10, 2021, we bid farewell to Ms. Mandi Figlioli (above left), our Assistant to the Superintendent, and an employee in the Burgettstown Area School District since 2005, as she leaves to assume the position of Director of Curriculum in the Bethel Park School District. After several years as an elementary teacher in the district, Ms. Figlioli transitioned to the District Offices where she was able to utilize her many talents across all grade levels. The school district is a better place today because of her student-centered, forward thinking leadership style. Best Wishes, Ms. FIglioli.

Our new Assistant to the Superintendent is a person familiar to many, Ms. Melissa Ferencuha (above right). She was most recently the Assistant Principal at the Middle/High School, and began her career at Burgettstown approximately 20 years ago as a math teacher. We are excited that Ms. Ferencuha joins our District Office team and we look forward to her leadership to pave the way for many good things to come! She will assume her new responsibilities on Monday, September 13.

Welcome Ms. Bohley! Welcome Ms. Bohley!

Ms. Elizabeth Bohley joined the BASD faculty this year, being hired as our new Family and Consumer Science Teacher at the MS/HS. Ms. Bohley is a graduate of Robert Morris University (Bachelor's Degree) and Duquesne University (Master's Degree) and has previous teaching experience in the San Antonio, Texas area as well as locally in the West Allegheny School District and the Sto-Rox School District. Ms. Bohley replaces Ms. Sharon Baillie, who retired at the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Shelby Powers Wins City Theatre Contest Shelby Powers Wins City Theatre Contest

One of Ms. Nonack's students from last year, Shelby Powers, was a winner in The Young Playwright's Contest for City Theatre. She wrote an amazing play during a very difficult year. She has worked all summer and her play will be performed at City Theatre this fall. She had the opportunity to design the set, work with their playwrights and actually cast her play.

Welcome Officer Ron Welcome Officer Ron

The Burgettstown Area School District entered into an agreement with Standing Stone Consulting, Inc to provide school police services for the 2021-2022 school year. Our new school police officer is "Officer Ron." He is a veteran police officer with municipal, school, and health care police experience. All school police officers in Pennsylvania must be NASRO certified as well as Act 120 certified. Officer Ron is both, and is also Act 235 certified. We welcome Officer Ron to the Burgettstown Area School District and look forward to him doing his part to keep all on campus safe!
