Background Checks and Field Trip Fees
Background checks are needed to chaperone field trips each year! It expires one year after your last.
- If you are interested in being a chaperone, sign up for a background check here
- The background check fee is $40.
- Checks, cash, or money orders for background checks are to be brought to Talley at least 3 days prior to going for the background check appointment.
- Checks for background checks are to be made out to City Schools of Decatur. In the memo, please write, "(name of field trip) fee - $40"
- Appointments take approximately 10 minutes.
- Candidates need to bring a driver's license.
- There is a short form to be filled out. The department then submits this information to the GBI and results often come back within 24 hours. Once they receive the returns, they process that information.
- Background checks are currently conducted at 2635 Talley Street, 2nd Floor. This is the building next door to Talley Street Upper Elementary
For Tybee: Please pay the chaperone fee of $350 AFTER you have clearance of the background check, and the 5th grade staff has assigned you as a chaperone. All other chaperone fees are the entry fees for the venue with the student's class field trip.
Student Portrait Day
Please see below for which date your child's class has portrait day.
Lost and Found
Please remind your child to check lost and found! There are many items there now. Also, make sure to label all of your child's personal items (water bottle, sweatshirt, jacket, lunch box, backpack, etc.). This will help us ensure that items are reunited with the right kids!
Dismissal Changes/Checkouts after Special Events
There will be no checkouts after Talley Rally or 1:45pm. The office will not be able to enter last-minute dismissals. If you would like to change your child to walkup pick up in Pick Up Patrol, please enter that information in advance anytime before noon on the day of Talley Rally. As a walkup pick up, your child will meet you when walkers are dismissed on the sidewalk on the parking lot side. They can also dismiss how they normally dismiss on a Friday or event afternoons. Thank you for your cooperation.

REMINDER: Plastic Film Collection
Our next collection for House Points will be Wednesday, October 8. Please make sure your plastic film is empty of all food and dry. Items for this collection include plastic grocery bags, zipper bags, plastic mailing envelopes, bubble wrap and bread bags. Rule of thumb: If you can stretch the plastic with your thumb, then it's plastic film. Learn more here.
Special Event: Sustainability + Inclusivity
Green Team is sponsoring a special event with Talley’s Best Buddies group! On Thursday, October 16 at 2:30 pm, Talley mom and owner of Joyful Jarra Refillery Veronica Apecena will discuss low-waste swaps; the power of reuse; ways to make sustainability simple, practical and joyful; and supportive employment for persons with developmental disabilities. We will meet in the Media Center, and then Veronica will show us her mobile refillery. All Talley students, parents and caregivers are invited to attend. Let us know that you will attend by registering here.
Clarifications on Recycling and the Green Team Store
The Green Team appreciates the large uptick in recycled materials making their way to school. While we wish we could collect everyone’s plastic from home, we do not have the storage space to do that. Plastic recycled at school is plastic that is used at school.
Items brought for the Green Team Store must comply with the specific list of items listed on the Green Team website. Food-related items should be clean and dry. For the next few weeks, students with items to turn in should bring them to Mrs. Roberts in Ms. Fiber’s classroom. Thank you for your support!
Interested in joining the Green Team? Please complete our sign-up form. Parent volunteers are greatly appreciated!
We did it! Thanks to your generous contributions, we exceeded our goal and raised just over $19,000 for the Class Fund! All funds will go towards gifts for our amazing teachers. Thank you for supporting our school community!
Our next Walk & Roll is tomorrow, Friday, October 3rd! Come join us!
Join the new Talley Street Bike Bus! A bike bus is a group of riders who travel together on bikes (or other non-car modes of transportation) on predetermined routes, at a specified time, to a shared final destination. We will bike to Talley every Friday morning! See this info doc and the Route Map for more details. We are still looking for a few more adult volunteers to help with routes! Express interest or sign up (for yourself and/or your student) at: https://tinyurl.com/talleybikebus. For questions, contact: talleystreetbikebus@gmail.com.

The DEI Committees will provide craft kits with decorations to you before Porchfest. All you need to do is set up the activities on a table in the lawn, driveway, or porch. We also need volunteers to help assemble the kits on Sunday, October 5 @ 1pm. Sign up for either opportunity at: https://evite.me/uKPerreJef.
