A Message from Mrs. Williams A Message from Mrs. Williams

I want to take a moment to remind students and families of a few important expectations related to lunch and leaving campus. These procedures are in place to ensure student safety and consistency.

Students with early release 5th or 6th period are not permitted to leave campus until after their scheduled class and lunch period. Lunch is considered part of the school day, and all students, including those with early release, are expected to remain in the building until their lunch and class period is complete. Students who leave campus without being properly signed out by their parent or guardian will receive progressive discipline for leaving school without permission.

Additionally, students with early release may only exit the building through the North or South Commons (Doors 2A and 27A). Leaving through any other door will also result in progressive discipline.

As previously shared, with our move into the new building and expanded cafeteria space, we have transitioned to closed lunch for all students. While we know this change has been an adjustment, especially for juniors and seniors, the new lunch commons provides ample space and an improved experience for students.

We will hold our Winter Family Conferences Wednesday, February 4 and Thursday, February 12. Conferences will take place from 4:00-7:30 PM both days. We will once again have the option to meet in-person or virtually. Families will be able to schedule conferences beginning Friday, January 30 at 4:00 PM.

During these conferences, families will have the opportunity to connect with teachers, counselors and administration and learn more about your student’s academic experience at GLHS.

Parents can schedule time to meet with individual teachers and staff members by using MyConferenceTime.com/glhs. When scheduling times to meet with teachers, please only reserve one (1) conference time per teacher and be mindful of the allotted time, as our staff’s goal is to meet with as many families as possible each evening.

If you need assistance in signing up for MyConferenceTime, please view the following tutorial video here. Any additional questions or concerns should be directed to your student’s C.A.R.E Team.

We are off to a great start in the new building and continue to thank all of our families for their support and collaboration in displaying PRIDE here at GLHS.

“Benadryl Challenge” Alert “Benadryl Challenge” Alert

We want to make families aware of a dangerous viral trend circulating online, sometimes referred to as the “Benadryl Challenge.” This trend encourages individuals to intentionally take large amounts of diphenhydramine (Benadryl), far beyond the recommended dose, to try to cause hallucinations or a euphoric “high.” This misuse has been promoted through videos on social media platforms, including TikTok.

This behavior is extremely unsafe and can lead to serious health consequences, including heart problems, seizures, hospitalization, or worse.

We encourage families to talk with students about the risks of taking medication in any way other than as directed and to remind them that viral trends are not harmless entertainment. Please contact your child’s school counselor or administrator if you have concerns or questions. Thank you for partnering with us to keep students safe and informed.
