Welcome Silver Lake Families!

Greetings! This is Principal Theresa Berow (formerly Campbell) welcoming you back for my 6th year leading the Silver Lake Mustangs. I am so proud of the remarkable students, staff, and families that make up our Silver Lake community. Joining me as full-time assistant principal this year is Dr. Sarah Quezada. Dr. Q is coming to us from her most recent position in Singapore and has extensive experience with dual language Spanish that will be invaluable as we expand our program this year, moving into first grade and welcoming new kindergartens.

At Silver Lake Elementary we believe every student matters and are committed to developing the academic and social emotional skills of each child.

Our school mission is:

Silver Lake Elementary School, in partnership with families and community, is dedicated to preparing each student for academic, social, and personal success through individualized, culturally relevant, rigorous, and equitable instruction.

Our school vision is:

Silver Lake will be a safe, caring, and inclusive environment where students, families, and staff feel valued and supported. We are committed to ensuring access to opportunities and resources that create and sustain a learning environment where students are engaged, empowered, and successful; including the opportunity to develop multilingualism and multiliteracy, high academic achievement, and sociocultural competence.

Silver Lake Elementary is home of the Mustangs and we are proud to serve our students and families as a learning community. We encourage all parents/guardians to take an active part by supporting their child’s work at home and communicating regularly with teachers and, when appropriate, the school counselor and principals. Throughout the year we will host family engagement events such as the Open House, Multicultural Night, SLAM Night (Science, Literacy, Art & Math), and more. We warmly invite you to join us.

Also please consider joining us at Silver Lake as part of our PTA, Natural Leaders, Dual Language Parent Advisory, Watchdogs, and other volunteer opportunities. Working as a team will ensure that all students receive the best education possible.

Our staff of highly dedicated professionals is looking forward to a rewarding year. Returning or new, we welcome you to Silver Lake Elementary. The Silver Lake Elementary School motto is: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Be Kind. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping us live this motto every day.

Warmly,

Silver Lake Principal, Theresa Berow

Hello! My name is Sarah Quezada, and I am thrilled to be joining Silver Lake Elementary as the new Assistant Principal. I’m excited to be part of this wonderful community and look forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff. I speak Spanish and a little Mandarin Chinese, and I would love to learn even more languages one day. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my three daughters and my husband, traveling, and exploring new places with my family. I’m looking forward to a fantastic school year and partnering with our families to support every student's success.

Building Routines for Success

A consistent routine helps children feel confident and ready to learn. Simple habits like getting enough sleep, eating breakfast, packing backpacks the night before, and talking about the school day can make a big difference. The first few weeks of school are all about establishing routines, so don't worry if it takes a little time. Small, consistent steps lead to successful school days!

Silver Lake Elementary’s Soccer Club season is starting soon! Soccer participants are selected via a lottery system in order to limit the amount of participants within the program for the safety of the coaches and students.

All students currently enrolled at SLE in grades 3, 4, and 5 are invited to apply to participate in the free, 1-hour after school program each Wednesday, beginning September 30th. This recreational, non-competitive club is held outside on the school playfields. Soccer Club seeks to teach ball handling skills, teamwork, and promote healthy exercise for our secondary elementary students. After club transportation is not provided. The Concussion Information and Soccer Club Application Form is due by Wednesday, September 23rd and can be accessed here or by scanning the QR code. Completion of the application does not guarantee your child’s spot in Soccer Club. Communication of students’ acceptance will go out on Friday, September 25. For more information about SLE’s Soccer Club, read the full description and view the season’s calendar within the Permission Slip form. For all other questions, contact the front office at (425) 385-6900, Coach DeVine (adevine@everettsd.org), or Coach Bekris (abekris@everettsd.org). Let’s go Mustangs!

Hello! I'm Mrs. Seaward, and I'm thrilled to be starting my third year as the part-time counselor at Silver Lake Elementary! I love being part of the Silver Lake community, and I'm excited about what our counseling team has planned this year.

We're here anytime a student needs us - and we're here for parents and caregivers too, whether you'd like to talk something through, share a concern, or problem-solve together. Our job is to help make school the best place it can be for students, so every child can reach the success we know each and every one of them is capable of.

A few fun facts about me:

🐱 Our family adopted two kittens from the Everett Animal Shelter this summer - Luna and Maka! They are very mischievous and love to play in our indoor plants.

🐶 We also have a fluffy little white dog named Cookie.

🎒 I love hanging out with my kids - I have a daughter in high school and a son in middle school.

🌲 I love to be outside as much as I possibly can.

📚 At home you'll catch me reading, taking a walk, painting, or sometimes even playing a video game.

🏒 I love watching hockey and baseball!

Hi Wonderful Silver Lake Families,

My name is James Allred and I am the Behavior Interventionist here at Silver Lake Elementary. Each month, I’ll connect with you all via our Newsletter to share what’s happening around our school and to share some tips and strategies for supporting our students.

My job is to support and ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all of our students as well as to promote a positive school climate and culture. We truly view this as a partnership with our families and encourage you to reach out and connect with us if you ever have any questions, concerns or ideas you’d like to share!

We’re off to a great start to the 2026-27 school year and I wanted to ground us in our shared vision of Mustang Pride. Being a part of the Silver Lake community is a special thing. Our students, staff and families bring a wealth of cultural capital that together make us unique and a stronger collective. Through our weekly student-led news show, Mustang TV, we highlight the unique and amazing things happening throughout our community and celebrate our shared pride in being Mustangs.

All Mustangs are:

  • Respectful

  • Responsible

  • Safe

  • Kind

These four character traits can be found on our signage throughout the building and are reinforced by staff and students every day. In addition, this year, we will be utilizing

P.R.I.D.E. Tickets:

These tickets are handed out for students who demonstrate a trait such as "perseverance, responsibility, independence, diligence, empathy” etc. When teachers catch students showing Mustang Pride, they will give them a ticket to turn in. Each week, and throughout the year, we have different opportunities for students to get their names chosen for Extra Friday Recess, small prizes and other fun opportunities that we work for as an entire school such as our annual “Silly Teacher Dance Video” and the chance to dump a bucket of water on Mr. Allred’s head at Field Day!

We’re excited to partner with our families on a safe and prideful year. Please reach out to me anytime if you’d like to know more or connect further! We could always use volunteers on the playground and cafeteria as well so reach out if you’d like to be a school volunteer.

In partnership,

James Allred

FAMILY SUPPORT FAMILY SUPPORT

Welcome back Silver Lake families- from Family Support. My name is Mrs. Buffy Osborn and I am Silver Lake's Family Support Specialist, and I help families and students connect with resources. I am here for all families who need support in many different ways. Raising a family takes a village, and you do not have to carry the weight alone. As your resource connector, my main goal is to support the health, stability, and peace of mind of your entire household. Whether your family is facing an unexpected financial emergency, experiencing housing insecurity, struggling to find reliable childcare, or simply needing access to basic essentials like groceries, hygiene items or clothing, I am here to help you find solutions. Mark your calendar for these upcoming resources:

*Free school backpacks are available for families needing support. Please fill out the free and reduced lunch through the link which helps families qualify for services and programs. Please note that you MUST FILL IT OUT EACH YEAR and is due by October 1st. This information is confidential. https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application. Several services and programs are at risk to being reduced and/or eliminated- if Silver Lake families are not filling out the eligibility forms. We would like to make sure that we have services available for up-and-coming years.

*Please be on the lookout for a bag of free clothing from the new (OSB) program, forms sent home if you are in need. I help to fulfill over 115 bags for students per year or more. Please pre-fill the above eligibility link before receiving forms for your clothing form to qualify even if you filled one out last year. Please note that clothing forms and bags take several weeks to fulfill, please be patient. Some kids will get the opportunity to go on a field trip to pick out clothing (with dates coming). If you have any questions, reach me Buffy Osborn on ParentSquare or Bosborn@everettsd.org.

*I will inform families on any upcoming food programs that will be offered through Family Support. I have a food pantry here at the school for urgent food needs.

*If your family is experiencing housing insecurity, please reach out so we can fill out a Housing Student Questionnaire together to see if you qualify for the KIT Program which is Everett School District's McKinney-Vento Program. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act to remove barriers to school enrollment, attendance, and success. It includes children and youth without a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence (including sharing housing due to economic hardship, staying in motels, shelters, or living in cars/RVs).The program and support helps with school enrollment, academic supplies, school fee assistance, basic needs, and transportation.

*For families and staff asking where they can donate toward the Family Support program, please see the QR Code below:

Help Shape the Future of Our PTA!

We also want to start an important conversation about the future leadership of our PTA.

Our current PTA board members have children who are in their final year at our elementary school. After this school year, our children will be moving on to middle school, which means we will need a new group of parents and caregivers to step into PTA leadership roles for next year.

This is a great opportunity for families who have been looking for a way to become more involved in our school community!

We will be looking for families who are interested in learning more about PTA leadership and potentially serving on the board next school year. You do not need previous PTA experience to get involved. Our current board would love to help answer questions, share what we’ve learned, and make the transition as smooth as possible.

We welcome you to co-chair a position this school year to help train you as you go!

Whether you’re interested in becoming a board member, helping with events, volunteering when you can, or simply becoming a PTA member, there is a place for you!

E-mail your PTA President Ashley for any questions or interests at sleptapresident1@gmail.com.

Parking Lot Safety & Patience During Dismissal Parking Lot Safety & Patience During Dismissal

With 560 students all dismissing at the same time, our parking lot can be a very busy place at the end of the school day. The entire dismissal process—from the first students being released to the last car leaving—takes only about 15 minutes when everyone works together.

We know it can feel hectic, but please remember to drive slowly, stay alert, and be kind to one another. A little patience goes a long way in keeping our students and staff safe.

Our parking lot is small, and space is limited, so we ask that everyone follow staff directions, pull forward when possible, and stay in designated areas for pick-up. Your cooperation helps dismissal run smoothly and ensures every child gets home safely.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping make our school a safe and positive place for everyone!

EPS and SLE cell phone policy: What families/students need to know EPS and SLE cell phone policy: What families/students need to know

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Did you know Everett Public Schools implemented our cell phone policy and procedure in 2019? The policy, which is designed to support an engaging learning environment, applies to cell phones as well as all personal electronic devices (PEDs) such as earbuds and smartwatches. Below is a breakdown of what families and students need to know as we start the school year.

At Silver Lake Elementary:

  • During the hours of 8:50a.m. to 3:30p.m. (or respective dismissal time): Cell phones/PED will be turned off and strored in backpacks. Students should not use these personal devices during the school day.

  • Communicating with your child during the school day: If a student needs to contact a parent/guardian, they can do so through the classroom/school office phone. Likewise, parents/guardians can call the office for any urgent messages.

Disciplinary action: If a cell phone/PED is seen or used during the day, school staff will hold it in the office where a parent or guarding will need to pick it up during office hours. Repeated violations may lead to further consequences.

Special accommadations will be made if a PED is part of a student's Individualized Education (IEP), 504 Plan, or Individual Health Care Plan (IHP).

ATTENDANCE ATTENDANCE

If your student is absent or tardy from school, please email the attendance office at sleattendance@everettsd.org to let us know the reason for the absence or tardy.

  • Absences must be reported (by ParentVue, email or note) within 30 calendar days after a student returns back to school, not including Holidays or weekends, in order to have the absence excused. Emails or notes turned in past the 30-day timeframe will be accepted; however, the absence is not excused and will be coded as such.
  • Automated attendance calls will be sent out daily. If your student will be absent or tardy you must notify the office before 9:15 a.m. If it is reported after this time you may receive the automated call.
  • Please view the Everett School District Attendance Procedure 3122P for more information (including definitions of absences).
  • Did you have a medical appointment for your child, or they were sick, and you brought them to the doctor? If so, make sure to ask for a medical note from the provider. Email or bring the note to the attendance office so those absences can be coded as a medical note excused absence.
  • Please fill out a prearranged absence form if your student will be going on vacation/traveling or will miss school for an extended period of time. As per district policy, the principal or designee may excuse up to five (5) school days for a prearranged absence per student each school year.
