June 2024

Dear Reynolds Families,
As another school year comes to a close, I want to sincerely thank you for the trust, encouragement, and support you have shown throughout the year. Reynolds is such a special place because of the strong partnership between home and school, and I am grateful for all that you do to support our students and staff.
This year has been filled with learning, laughter, perseverance, and growth. It has been wonderful to watch our students build confidence, strengthen friendships, and embrace new opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Their enthusiasm and resilience continue to make our school community something truly special.
I am deeply appreciative of the many families who volunteered their time, supported school events, and contributed to the positive spirit of Reynolds. Your involvement helps create meaningful experiences for our students and strengthens the sense of community that makes our school so welcoming. I would also like to recognize our outstanding teachers and staff for the care, dedication, and commitment they bring to our students every day.
As I close out this school year, I also want to share how much I have appreciated my time as the Reynolds School Principal. It has truly been a privilege to be part of such a caring and supportive school community. I will miss the students, families, and staff very much. Thank you for the kindness, support, and memories that I will always carry with me. I wish you all the very best in the years ahead and hope you will keep in touch.
Wishing you all a safe, joyful, and restful summer.
Warmly,
Devin Severs
Move Up Day
Your child's class assignment will also be noted on their report card. The report card will be shared on Genesis on Monday, June 22nd. We understand that change can be difficult for students and parents. Children often take cues from their parents about new situations. We ask that you approach your child's placement with positivity and enthusiasm. This will result in a smoother transition and get your child's year off to the best possible start. Please understand that changes will not be made to placement. We appreciate your support.
Congratulations to Mrs. Carmilani and Mrs. Dobrinski on their Retirements
Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Carmilani and Mrs. Dobrinski, two extraordinary members of our Learning Lab Team, as they celebrate their retirements. Throughout their years at Reynolds School, they have touched the lives of countless students and families through their dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to education. Their impact on our school community has been truly immeasurable.
Mrs. Carmilani and Mrs. Dobrinski have each played an important role in making Reynolds such a supportive and caring place for children to learn and grow. While we will miss them dearly, we are incredibly grateful for the lasting difference they have made and the many memories they leave behind. We wish them both happiness, relaxation, and many wonderful adventures in retirement.
Memorial Day Sing
On May 22nd, Reynolds and Bogert Schools joined together for our annual Memorial Day Sing. We spoke about the significance of Memorial Day. Each grade-level participated in the event by singing a patriotic song. It was a meaningful experience for all involved.
We are very thankful to Ms. Alberta, Mr. Bischoff, and Mr. Weinsten for coordinating this important event.
Reynolds Field Day
Thank you to Mr. Ramirez and Mr. Griffith for planning our field day for tomorrow. Students will enjoy a variety of exciting stations throughout the morning and have a chance to enjoy an inflatable obstacle course in the afternoon. We appreciate the thoughtful planning that goes into this fun and memorable event for our school community.
A few reminders:
We ask that the students wear their Reynolds Field Day shirt or any green t-shirt for the event.
Here are some important things to remember:
Sneakers are a must
The temperature will be in the mid 60’s. Please dress appropriately
Bring a labeled bottle of water
Apply sunscreen and wear a hat
Summer Activities
Summer slide refers to the tendency for students to lose some of the academic progress they have made during the school year, and it is especially common among reluctant readers. To help prevent or limit this slide, it is important for children to continue reading regularly over the summer.
Your child’s teacher will provide activities and suggestions to support summer learning. In addition to those resources, one simple but powerful way to help is by having your child read aloud every day. Reading aloud strengthens comprehension skills and builds familiarity with a variety of texts.
By keeping reading part of your summer routine, you will help your child return to school ready to succeed.
Tips for Staying Connected from Mrs. Slacin
As the school year comes to an end, the students become excited (and a little nervous) about September. Move Up Day allows the students to get a feel for the year ahead by meeting their teacher and future classmates. It's helpful for parents to be positive and encouraging about the Move Up experience!
For some students, the idea of leaving their current class can be overwhelming. Play-dates, camp, and community activities over the summer keep the kids connected, but also allow students to make new friends. Remind your child that recess, Rocket Recharge, and special events will help them keep in touch with former classmates in the year ahead.
