Teaching w/Goosebumps

Engage even reluctant readers with lesson plans utilizing the ever-popular Goosebumps series, teach specific Goosebumps books, learn about author R.L. Stine.

Have you read the book called Monster Blood from the series? To sum it up, Evan gets some cool, green slime called Monster Blood, while visiting his great aunt. It was fun at first, but now it won't stop growing. And eating.

Be sure to stop by the library to check-out our collection of R.L. Stine Goosebumps series!

5 Strategies to Help Black Students Feel at Home in School

This past year of protests calling attention to systemic racism and police brutality has no doubt impacted our students, inviting conversations on the experiences of Black students within our classrooms. Many White teachers have been examining the ways in which they can make their classroom environments more welcoming and inclusive to Black students. To bring justice to the center of our work, White teachers can implement strategies to ensure that their spaces allow for Black children to feel seen, valued, and heard. In doing so, White teachers are fostering a learning environment where Black identity is affirmed, creating a culture of care and concern that fosters a sense of belonging. Read more here.

A Path to Improving Students’ Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence includes the capacity to recognize and manage moods and emotions in real-world situations. Considered the starting point of social and emotional skill development, emotional intelligence can also predict future academic success. “An emotion scientist has the ability to pause even at the most stressful moments and ask: What am I reacting to? We can learn to identify and understand all our feelings, integral and incidental, and then respond in helpful, proportionate ways— once we acquire emotional skills.”-Marc Brackett, author of Permission to Feel. Hot Pepper Challenge!

Not so long ago, one day

A student came my way.

He sought some knowledge on plants to grow,

So I showed him some books & where to go.

We spoke about my garden, the peppers I grow for chili.

Immediately, he thought a challenge that was kind of eerie...

The Great Pumpkin Contest!

It wouldn't be fall without some kind of PUMPKIN contest. Instead of hauling in carved pumpkins, we're doing a drawn or digitally illustrated pumpkin!

Bring this Squash to Life!

Decorate this pumpkin as a

book character or illustration from a favorite BOOK. You may use markers, crayons, paints, colored pencils or other materials of your choice. I do have arts and craft supplies in the library, so any well behaved kiddos can stop by to decorate during free class time (with a proper pass from your instructor)!

Don't Laugh at My Work!

He's part Pumpkin-king and Pennywise. Why? He's a king because my book reference was CROWN: An Ode to the Fresh Cut by Derrick Barnes with illustrations by Gordon C. James. But also because I DO NOT LIKE CLOWNS. They're in the same boat with alligators, large crowds and licorice! Barf to them all!

And now for the BOOK FAIR! And now for the BOOK FAIR!

Most of the shopping can be done online via a virtual fair and wallet. Additionally, there will be some items here on campus for purchase, but it will be limited due to covid-19 restrictions & past fair sales.
