A Message from the Principal, Mrs. Cleghorn A Message from the Principal, Mrs. Cleghorn

November is a great time to pause and reflect on the many things we have to be thankful for. At Rosedale, I am especially grateful for our students, families, and staff who make our school such a special place to be. Each day, we have opportunities to learn, grow, encourage one another, and make a positive difference in the lives of those around us.

A HUGE thank you to our PTO and families for making our recent fall activities such a success! We had a fantastic turnout for both our Candy Monster Competition and Trunk or Treat. Thanks to your generosity, we collected over 360 pounds of candy for our Candy Monster Competition! Congratulations to our winning classrooms:

  • 1st Place: Mrs. Amerman's 4th Grade Class

  • 2nd Place: Mrs. Wright's Preschool/PK Class

  • 3rd Place: Mrs. Roush's 3rd Grade Class

It was wonderful seeing so many families come together to enjoy these events. We appreciate our PTO for putting in the time and effort to organize these fun opportunities for our students and families. We are fortunate to have such a supportive school community!

As we approach Veterans Day, we look forward to recognizing and honoring the men and women who have served our country. We are excited to welcome families and community members to our Veterans Day program on Wednesday, November 11, at 9:00am Thank you to everyone who helps our students understand the importance of recognizing and appreciating those who have served.

We are also looking forward to Grands Day on Friday, November 13! We love having the opportunity to welcome grandparents or other special guests into our building to spend time with our students. Grade levels have assigned times for their grands to visit, enjoy refreshments and spend time together. We look forward to seeing everyone!

Good luck to our Hotshot Spell Bowl team as they compete in the area competition on Monday, November 16! We are proud of your hard work and wish you the best of luck. Go Hotshots!

As the weather gets cooler, please remember to send coats, hats, and gloves with your child. We will continue to enjoy outdoor recess whenever weather permits, and we want everyone to be comfortable!

Thank you for the trust you place in us each day and for being such an important part of the Rosedale family. I am thankful for the opportunity to work alongside such wonderful students, families, and staff. I hope everyone has a wonderful November and finds plenty of reasons to be thankful!

A Message From the Counselor, Mrs. Rector A Message From the Counselor, Mrs. Rector

In November, students in Kindergarten through 4th grade will continue learning through the Safer, Smarter Kids curriculum. Depending on the grade level, this month’s lesson will teach personal boundaries, safe and unsafe touches, and recognizing safe versus unsafe secrets. Students will learn how to use a strong, confident voice to say “No” or “Stop,” identify trusted adults they can turn to for help, and understand the importance of continuing to speak up until they are heard and helped.

Our social-emotional lessons will focus on impulse control — the ability to pause and manage sudden urges to react. When children begin to understand what an impulse feels like, they can learn how to manage those impulses when they arise. Teaching children how to control themselves empowers them to navigate difficult situations successfully, from waiting their turn to handling big feelings with friends.

How Can You Help at Home?
Playing games is a fun, low-pressure way to build impulse control! Try "I'm a Statue" with your child: Stand on opposite sides of the room with your back to your child. While your back is turned, they tiptoe toward you. When you turn around, they must freeze like a statue and hold it until you turn away again. If you catch them moving, reset and try again. You can also encourage your child to notice when an urge hits and practice simple strategies together, like taking a deep breath or counting to five before responding.

October Hotshots of the Month October Hotshots of the Month

Each month, we recognize one student from each classroom who represents the values we strive to see in every Hotshot! Our Hotshot Trait of the Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate a different quality that helps make our school community a great place to learn and grow. Teachers will share a quick “This student stood out to me because...” statement to highlight how each Hotshot demonstrates the monthly trait.

October's trait was: KINDNESS

These students were recognized by their teachers for going out of their way to make a positive difference! Whether helping others, offering encouragement, sharing, including classmates, or simply finding ways to brighten someone's day, these students are showing what it means to be a Hotshot!

If you choose to allow your student to leave with their grand, please send a note or call the office before November 13. Please note that leaving before 12:30pm will count as a ½ day excused absence.

Students will not be permitted to call home to ask for permission to leave. Parent/guardian consent must be provided in advance for a student to be released to their grand.

Updates from the Classrooms Updates from the Classrooms

Preschool/PK - Mrs. Wright

In October, we learned the letters D, G, and M, as well as the numbers 4, 5, and 6. We also focused on the shapes oval, heart, and star. The colors we discussed were brown, yellow, and purple. We learned about helping others and explored our families. For Fire Prevention Month, we had a great visit from our local fire departments, Rosedale and Lyford. A BIG thank you to all of them!

Also, a big thank you to everyone who volunteered or donated for our Halloween parties. We had so much fun!

We are looking forward to our Grands Day celebration in November. Looking ahead, we will be learning about communication, feelings, and the weather.

Happy Birthday to all of our November birthdays!

Mrs. Wright (5)

Isabelle (14)

Ellie (26)

Freya (30)

Kindergarten - Mrs. Sudduth/Miss Whitlow and Mrs. Urbain

As the weather gets colder, we encourage students to bring coats and hats daily. We all know how hectic it can be to get each child bundled up and ready to go.

We would greatly appreciate your support and practice with your children on the following:

  • Fixing those inside-out sleeves

  • Putting on their coats without assistance

  • Zipping them up all by themselves

Thank you for making winter a little warmer and a lot more organized!

Our kindergartners have been continuing to master our routines and procedures. As we look ahead to November, we also know it holds many new challenges and experiences for the students. You will begin to notice your child becoming a reader and writer. We are mastering letter sounds and creating CVC words. We have also been working very hard on recognizing color and number words.

We will be having a Thanksgiving feast on Monday, November 23rd. Please keep an eye on Rooms for information regarding our kindergarten feast.

Thank you for all you do! We appreciate our parents so much!

11/30 - Lyddia Benskin

Second Grade - Miss Boak, Mrs. Reed, and Mrs. Stepp

Second grade is cruising right along into the holiday season! We have been working hard since fall break!

In reading, we are working with long vowel teams. These can be tricky, so please make sure your student is studying their spelling words nightly. We are also working on different skills, such as apostrophes, verbs, and nouns. Please make sure your student is studying their vocabulary words as well. Understanding what these words mean helps make reading our stories easier!

In math, we are currently working on place value. We will then move into comparing numbers and number patterns. Students are encouraged to continue working on their addition and subtraction skills, as these skills will be important as we continue learning. We will soon be working with three-digit numbers, so continuing to practice addition and subtraction is important!

We look forward to seeing our grands at Grands Day on November 13th, as well as our guests for the Veterans Day Program on November 11th.

Happy Birthday to:

Our first fundraiser of the year earned us around $250. We are currently in the midst of our second fundraiser. We are raffling off a beautiful Christmas wreath with gift cards. Please send those gift cards in as soon by Friday, November 6. The raffle tickets will be easier to sell with more gift cards attached. We will have a few more fundraisers throughout the school year to help us reach our goal of funding our overnight zoo field trip.

We have been working on multiplication and division facts. Please continue to sharpen these skills by practicing at home. We will be working on word problems using these facts, and students will need to know them for continued success.

In reading, we have started Unit 3, which focuses on informational texts and folktales.

The next few weeks are quite full with the Veterans Day Program and Grands Day. We look forward to celebrating with you all!

Speech - Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Woods

In October, during speech therapy, we discussed fire safety and started a lesson on train safety. In November, our plan is to finish up the safety lessons and then move into our Thanksgiving lesson. The Thanksgiving lesson will look at traditions and various styles of celebration locally and around the world.

In November, we will also celebrate our Speechgiving. This is a highly anticipated event in the speech room. In August, the speech students start asking if we are going to eat pancakes in the speech room this year. The answer is always “YES!” Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Goodwin bring in pancake mix, syrup, chocolate chips, peanut butter, sprinkles, Cool Whip, a griddle, and anything else we can think of to create this Thanksgiving pancake feast. This is a laid-back time to eat, talk, discuss family traditions, and write down what we are thankful for. Let’s be honest here . . . Mrs. Woods and Mrs. Goodwin enjoy this day just as much as the students do!

As we enter the holiday season, we encourage you to discuss with your child what each of you is thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving!

Specials - Art/Mrs. Boillard, Music/Mrs. Moore, and PE/Mr. Batty

At the end of November, classes will begin working on Christmas art. Please enjoy the beautiful art your student brings home. Students work hard in art class and are very proud of what they create. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
