Looking back on a GREAT book week!
Welcome back, RVS Families! I hope you all had a fantastic break. We were very excited to welcome kids back to school this morning, and are still talking about the awesome events we enjoyed during MRPS Loves Books Week. Our PTO deserves a round of applause for hosting a wonderful book fair, from which each student was able to take home two books. Our PTO also helped bring author Marty Kelley in for a visit, which our students just loved - he was incredibly funny and inspirational. A number of kids left excited to continue or just try out something creative after hearing him speak! Finally, a big thank you to the Roxbury Free Library for being the receiving end of our book parade, featuring many of our students dressed as their favorite books (see more images below). We appreciated all of the support from our community as we celebrated one of our favorite things: great books!

RVS Important to Remember:
- The UES Meet and Greet for RVS Families is scheduled for this Thursday night, May 2nd, from 5:30 - 6:30. As a reminder, you can RSVP here and reserve a ride on our bus if you'd like. We will have a bus departing RVS promptly at 5:00, stopping at the Exit 5 park and ride at approximately 5:12, and continue to UES. This bus will depart UES at 6:30, returning to RVS by 7:00. Please note that we also have a district FAQ document for families transitioning to UES, which you can access here.
- Caregiver Questionnaires for Learner Placement are due by this Friday to be used as we consider which classroom to place your child in for the upcoming year. These forms are not required but are helpful for us as we consider placing students with new teachers and classmates. If you need another copy, please email Tina or Shannon and we will send you another one home or via email, if you prefer.
- Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! MRPS and our Roxbury PTO will be celebrating our faculty and staff throughout the week, and we encourage families to join in if you'd like. A card designed by students, or daffodils picked before school, are amazing ways to let your teacher know how much you appreciate them!
- Our garden volunteer work day has been scheduled for Saturday, May 11th, from 9 AM -12 PM. We can use plenty of helpers, and volunteers with shovels will be particularly helpful as we get ready to plant our new apple trees!
- We have an early release day on Monday, May 20th at 12:00. Students who attend Bridges on Mondays can attend the extended session, which will be a field trip.
End of the Year Events: What's coming up?
We have a very busy end of the year planned, with local events and plenty of fun field trips! We will share opportunities for chaperoning and volunteering as these events get closer - we will certainly have lots of opportunities for families to join in.
- Friday, May 24th, we have our final retreat for 4th graders at MSMS. We will be gone for the morning and will visit a Maker Faire and have our final session with Up for Learning!
- Friday, May 31st, we have a Forest Friday lunch celebration at the D'Amico's house, featuring a BBQ lunch and bagpipe/fiddle players.
- Wednesday, June 5th, we will travel to UES to join classes in field day. This is a full day event.
- Wednesday, June 12th is our RVS field day - close to a full day event! Rain date is 6/17.
- Thursday, June 13th will be a multi-layered field trip: we are all headed to Shelburne. Grades 3-4 will hop off at the Shelburne Museum. Grades K-2 will continue over to Shelburne Farms. This is a full-day field trip.
- Friday, June 14th we will have a full-day trip to the Montshire Museum (we know, very close to our other trip - unfortunately, unavoidable!).
- Wednesday, June 19th will be our RVS Graduation Event from 5:30 - 6:30 PM. ALL students will be "graduating" this year, so all families are encouraged to attend! More details coming soon on this event.
- Wednesday, June 19th is the last day of school for kindergarten students.
- Thursday, June 20th is a half day, and grades 1-4 will be at UES. All students will "step up" to their new classes, and fourth graders will go to MSMS after the graduation parade. We will return to RVS for a 12:00 dismissal. This is the last day of school for grades 1-4.
We will continue to update this list as other events are added. We do realize that the end of the year is a busy time for families: if there is anything we can answer questions about, don't hesitate to reach out to shannonm@mpsvt.org.
