WEEKLY HAWK

Hello Homestead Community,

We ended the week with a wonderful picture day! Students came in looking and feeling their best and we loved seeing them all dressed up. I had the chance to visit a lot of 1st grade fun this week and have included pictures of their lines project in Art, their K-Pop dance in PE (a quick break from their soccer game), and their Informances in Music! Additionally, all three classes gathered together in the innovation space to start planning their cardboard city. In connection with their social studies curriculum, they discussed where in the community they get goods and services.

Your student may have mentioned having a guest teacher this week. As a district, we are lucky to engage in district-wide professional development that supports unit planning in literacy. See how hard our Kindergarten team was working (below)!

Next week, we will be having our first-ever Safety Week! We will practice one drill per day. Monday - Tornado Drill, Tuesday - Fire Drill, Wednesday - Lockdown Drill, and Friday - Secure Perimeter. Our mascots, Mo and Homer, will be on the lookout for the classes showing good listening and safe behavior during the drills! At the end of each drill, Mo and Homer will select one class that they think did the best job and will stay with that class until the next day.

As a reminder, this Wednesday is our October Count day. See below for more details but please do everything possible to ensure your student is here on time on October 1st. To make it a little more fun we will have a spirit day - encourage your student to wear all things Fall! Football jerseys, plaid, orange, yellow, brown, red, fun scarves, a Halloween shirt - whatever makes you think of Fall!

Finally, what an amazing Fall Fest! The fun was never-ending. It was great to see so many families come out to gather together as a community and enjoy the event. Thank you PTCO for your incredible efforts and organizing such a memorable event.

Did you know that Homestead gets our state funding based on the number of students that are present on this day?

The student October count is the single most important state required data submission that we participate in each school year!

While every day at school is important, please make every effort to send your children to school on October 1 to be counted! To make it even more fun to be here, we have decided on a Fall Themed Spirit Day. See the Flyer below and wear all your fall gear on October 1, 2025!

3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are invited to join Mrs. Cackowski and Ms. Pedrett after school for Brain Boost.

Parents of students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, please remember to have your child wear appropriate athletic footwear, such as tennis shoes, on PE days. For safety reasons, children should not wear Crocs, sandals, cowboy boots, Ugg boots, Teva's, heels, or similar footwear during PE activities. Kindly refer to the PE schedule above to determine your child's designated PE day.

We have several after school clubs and summer activities offered at Homestead through outside organizations such as Chess Club, Coding Club and Tennis and Pickleball Club. Stop by the front lobby of our school to see what is offered and pick up a flyer for more information. Or, click on this link to access the flyers electronically.

Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. As of January 2022, we began asking every volunteer to complete a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools.

If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the CCSD online volunteer form. It should only take a few minutes to complete and you will only need to complete this form once a year to meet the requirements to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.

Please note: if you completed this application more than one year ago, it is time to do it again!

The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a badge printed from our Raptor system or a District ID.
