To do so, call the attendance phone number,916-979-8012 option 2 OR email coyleabsence@sanjuan.edu OR send a message via Talking Points to report the absence. State the student's name, teacher, date, and reason for the absence. We truly appreciate your call or email by the morning of the absence.
INDEPENDENT STUDY-HOME INSTRUCTION (Short Term)
In the event that your child will not attend school for an extended period of time, please contact the school attendance clerk ten (10) school days before your child's absences to schedule his/her independent study/home instruction program. An independent study may only be approved for a period of more than 5 days and up to 15 days. (Students that miss school for any length of time for reasons other than illness will be marked as “unexcused” absences without the independent study contract.)
Absent more than 16 days
If a student is going to be out more than 16 days without a medical note, the student will be dropped from our enrollment. Once you return, you will need to re-enroll with San Juan Central before you can return to School.
Drop off and Pick Up Procedures
Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures 1st - 5th Grades
This year we have new late drop off and pick up procedures. Please see below and let us know if you have any questions.
Late Drop Off
If your student arrives after 7:45am, they will need to come to the office for a tardy clock, the gates will be locked. Students will then enter the school through the door in the nurses room.
If students are on campus but are not in their classrooms at 7:45, they will be marked absent and will need to come to the office to get their attendance changed to a tardy.
Late Pick Up
M,T,W,F - Pick up by 2:30pm
Th - Pick up by 1:15pm
Parking Lot Update
No Left Turns at Dismissal
In our ongoing mission to make dismissal smoother, safer, and just a little less like a scene from a traffic jam movie, we’re implementing a small change with a big impact:
Effective immediately, left turns out of the school parking lot will not be permitted during dismissal time.
(Yes, your GPS might be upset, but your fellow drivers will thank you!)
You’re still welcome to make a left turn during other parts of the school day—just not during that high-traffic window when we're all racing the clock.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep the flow moving and the horns honking to a minimum. Think of it as turning right… in the right direction!
Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe and (mostly) sane.
Pick-Up Line PSA
Friendly reminder: Please don’t double-park and abandon your vehicle during pick-up. When you do, traffic gets stuck, kids can’t get through safely, and the rest of us wonder if your car has been left behind as modern art. If you need to walk up, please use a designated parking spot—your fellow parents (and our traffic flow) will thank you!
Update your Contacts
Early Dismissals and ID Checks
The office does check ID's when the person picking up a student in not known to the office. If they are not listed as one of your contacts or emergency contacts we will need permission from the Parent/Guardian before we allow the student to leave campus with that person.
If you have any concerns or any court paperwork, make sure you give it to the the office to keep on file.
Address Change
Have you moved and not updated your address? Please do so today!
If you have moved, we need you to update your address.
To update your address click on the link below and provide the information requested.
Medications at School
Medications at School
A designated school employee may administer medication during the school hours only upon written request of both the physician and parent(s) or guardian, detailing the method, amount, and time the medication is to be taken.
Medication will be administered only to students whose parent and physician deem it necessary for potentially life-threatening medical conditions or for those who need medication administered during the school day in order to interact appropriately at school.
Authorization forms for medication are available to download below, or at each school office. A new form must be completed before the start of each school year. Medications must be brought to the school office in their original container.

No Gum At School
Please remember not to send your student to school with gum. Gum can cause several issues in the classroom and around campus:
- It can stick to desks, chairs, carpets, and school property, causing damage and extra cleaning.
- Removing stuck gum takes time and often requires special cleaning, which reduces custodial time for other important tasks.
- Gum on clothing, shoes, or hair can be uncomfortable and upsetting for the student.
- Chewing gum can be a distraction during lessons and may interfere with learning.
- Shared surfaces and litter from discarded gum create hygiene concerns.
