We can't wait to see our students!

Welcome Back Panthers!

Let me be the first to welcome back all of our Perth Road Panthers and extend a warm welcome to our new students!

My name is Allison Croth and I am the Principal at Perth Road Pubic School. I am delighted to work with the PRPS staff, students and families once again, in this wonderful school community. I believe I can speak for all staff that we are excited and ready for the start of the school year and can't wait to see our students! Staff have been busy arranging and organizing their classrooms, and the school has been cleaned and is shining. Everyone has been working hard to be ready to go on Wednesday September 4th!

The Panther Peek @the Week is a weekly school communication that is emailed and posted to the school website on Sunday evenings. Please watch for this email and read it for more information about recent school activities and upcoming events. It's important to know what is going on!

Students' Classroom Placements

As in past year's, students' classroom placements are not be shared prior to the first day of school. Classroom teachers will be outside at the front of the school when the bell rings at 9:05AM. Teachers will be holding signs indicating the grade that they teach. Students will disembark one bus at a time starting with our Kindergarten students, and will be supported as they make their way to the grade appropriate teacher. Teachers will be able to direct students from there.

This year, all Junior Kindergarten student will start on the first day of school. Kindergarten families have been informed of their child's classroom placement. We will have lots of staff on hand to support our youngest learners make their way to their classrooms.

As many of our families have experienced in the past, the school organization remains tentative and classes may shift or change during the first few weeks of school. This complicated annual process is often needed as we accommodate new registrations and movement in and out of our area.

More important information is shared below in this newsletter. Please review it carefully with your family. If you have any questions through out the school year, the best way to get answers is to call the school at 613-353-32151 or email at pertr@limestone.on.ca. In addition, please feel free to reach out to me at the email below.

Looking forward to seeing our students soon~ 3 more sleeps Panthers!

How can we get ready for school?

What should my child bring to school?

Students will keep all of their belongings in their work space. We recommend that you limit the amount of belongings brought to school each day. Students should bring:

  • a litter-less lunch (all containers and packaging brought to school need to be taken home)
  • a refillable water bottle for the water bottle filing station
  • Indoor shoes for the classroom and gym class.
  • outdoor clothing (students could be outside for a significant amount of time each day. Ensuring proper outdoor clothing is essential (sweater, raincoat, boots, hat, extra socks etc.)
  • Students are able to bring their own school supplies (pencil crayons, scissors, glue stick, etc.) but this is not required
  • Students are able to bring their own device (Chromebook, tablet, etc,) but this is not required. (The school is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged devices).

How can families prepare?

  • Talk to your children about school. The transition back to school can be hard for some. Re-assure your child that the grownups (at home and at school) are working together to support them. Do your best to share positive messaging about school and be mindful of your personal worries and concerns.
  • Reach out to other families to share ideas and strategies and make connections in advance of the first day.

  • Access community resources to support your child's mental health and well-being or to access support for yourself. Our school team is ready to help you!

We can't wait to see you all again soon!

Document Verification for New Registrations

Junior Kindergarten students and students new to Ontario schools need to provide some documentation to the school. If you haven't done so already, please plan on bringing the required documents to the school office on your child's first day.

Medical Plans of Care & Medication at School

If your child requires special care for a medical condition or takes medication while at school, please notify the school's office so that the appropriate arrangements and paperwork can be completed or updated. If you have already informed the school of your child's medical condition, you will be contacted, if needed, to establish or update a Plan of Care for your child while at school.

If your child needs to take prescription medication while at school there are forms that need to be completed and returned to the school each year before the medication can be administered. Please click on the links to access Form 314 A-1 and B-1. Also, please check the expiry dates on all medications (ie. Epipens, Inhalers) to ensure they are current before sending them to school.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We are always happy to help clarify information. We look forward to having your students back in our classrooms and to seeing you all soon!

New Provincial Policy restricts cell phones and social media use at schools

Policy/Program 128: The Provincial Code of Conduct and School Boards Code of Conduct regarding the restricting/limiting cellphones and vapes in schools is now in effect. The revised Code of Conduct outlines that members of the school community will:

  • treat each other with kindness and respect,

  • support learning and keep distractions out of class, and

  • help others when they are in need.

It also outlines that members of the school community will not:

  • bully, cyberbully, or encourage others to do so,

  • harm others, including harm with the motivation of hate or discrimination,

  • use a personal mobile device during class unless permitted by an educator, and

  • use, share, or sell vape, nicotine, and/or tobacco products on school property.

In addition, the Provincial Code of Conduct requires boards to restrict access to all social media platforms and apps on school networks and school devices. Consequently, students and staff will not be able to access a wide range of social media sites during the school day using the LDSB network or Board devices.

Given the new expectations that cell phones are NOT to be used in the classroom unless the educator(s) explicitly allow students to use their personal devices for learning purposes, we recommend the following:

  • Let your child know about the new cell phone restrictions in advance. Reassure students that if you need to relay information to them during the school day you are able to call the office and office staff will relay information to your child as appropriate.
  • Establish a clear transportation plan for your child in advance. Share this plan with your child and their teacher at the start of the school year. Remind your child as necessary about the plan for the day before they leave home. Any changes to after school transportation plans need to be recieved by the school office before 3PM so we can communicate this information to teachers and students.
  • Facebook, Messenger and 'X' are social media platforms that have been used in the past to support home/school communication. These applications are examples of social media apps that are now blocked on school devices and internet during the school day. If you have questions for the school or your child's teacher, please call the school at 613-353-2151, email the school at pertr@limestone.on.ca or email your child's teacher directly. A list of staff emails can be found on our school website.
  • School staff will be modelling the expectations of appropriate moblie device use throughout the school day and will check emails when possible. Any urgent messages should come through the office so that we can ensure educators recieve them in a timely manner.

Additional information is available on
Limestone’s website, as well as the Ministry of Education’s website. If you have any questions regarding PPM 128, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school. We appreciate your support as we work together to reduce distractions from mobile devices during the school day.

School Parking Lot & Bus Loading Zone

We continue to need your help. Since the safety of our students is a priority for all of us, parents are requested to use the Student Drop off & Pick up parking (to the right at the entrance) when driving children to and from school.

The school driveways and the bus loading zone in front of the school need to remain clear of traffic and parked cars.

Finally, if you are parking along Walsh Road, please be mindful when parking that the buses need room to navigate the narrow roadway. We would hate to see anyone’s vehicle get damaged by accident. Thanks again for your attention to this matter.

2023-2024 School Council~ AGM & Elections

School Councils are important partners in education. School Councils provide a forum through which parents and other members of school communities can contribute to improving student achievement and well-being and enhance the accountability of the education system. The school values the role and contribution of our School Council members and their commitment to help boost parent involvement and serve as an ongoing mechanism for effective two-way communication and consultation between the school and the school community.

Perth Road Public School Parent Council would like to invite you to our Annual General meeting (AGM) September 30th, 2024. The meeting will be held at Perth Road Public School in the library @6:30 pm.

At this meeting there will be an opportunity to get involved in your child's school whether it be sharing ideas on a committee, donating some free time to help with fundraisers, or holding a position as an executive member. Please click the link below to complete the nomination form or to express interest in supporting the school in one of these ways. Nomination forms will also be available at the AGM. The following positions are available: chair/co-chair, secretary, treasurer, as well as various committee leads.

Being a part of Parent Council is a fun way to be more involved in your child's school and a great way to meet and collaborate with fellow parents. Below are some links of the current positions and a brief description of those positions. We hope to see some new and old faces for this school year so that we can do amazing things for our kiddos! After the AGM we will move onto our first meeting of the 2024-2025 school year. We look forward to seeing you.

The Annual General Meeting and School Council elections will take place on Monday September 30th at 6:30PM at the school. The first meeting of the new council will happen immediately following the AGM.
