Parent/Guardian Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for such a great start to another school year. Hopefully we will experience the temperature change soon and it will feel like fall soon enough. I have also been thinking that sometimes August is a hard month. Our kids are growing up, changing schools, jobs are evolving, and time seems to pass even faster-but let's remember there is beauty in things that change. The 'old" falling away only makes room for the beauty of the new that is emerging.
Fall is also a wonderful time to encourage children to practice gratitude, kindness, responsibility, and connection. There is an easy way to do this. Simple conversations at home—such as asking, “What was something good about your day?” or “What is something you are looking forward to?”—can make a meaningful difference. It can be while they are waiting at the bus stop or riding to school in the car, sitting watching sports or eating dinner, or simply just casual conversations that you are having with your student. I challenge you to try to incorporate some of these questions at home this month.
Lastly, our focus this month is Positive Self Talk. Our day is only as good as we tell ourselves it will be. The first thing you think in the morning isn't, "awe man, I have to do this again," instead thinking "I get a chance to try again today." I hope this month you will help your student find simple ways to shift their mindset by the way they speak to themselves. Things like, "I can do hard things," "I am important and valued," "I can make good decisions regardless of my past." Let's encourage our students to talk positively to themselves. As a result will will see moods improve, behaviors change, and relationships flourish. Please let me know if there is anything that you need to help September be a month to remember and be grateful for.
