January Focus: Mid- Year Goals

Happy New Year JHW Families! I hope you and your family had a restful and joyous holiday season. As we begin 2025, we are excited to share our focus for January and the updated Mid-Year Goals designed to ensure a strong and successful second half of the school year.

January Focus: Mid-Year Goals

Academic Excellence:

  • Overall Performance: Increase the percentage of students scoring at Mastery/Proficient (On Grade Level).
  • Subject-Specific Targets: 80% of students will meet their individual student learning targets on 2 out of 3 benchmark tests.
  • Focus on Equity: Provide targeted support for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students and students with disabilities, ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.

Attendance:

  • Achieve a 92% daily attendance rate.

Discipline:

  • Reduce Out of School Suspensions (OSS) by 6%.

Community & Culture:

  • Strengthen positive relationships among students, families, staff, and community partners to build a supportive learning environment for all.

How You Can Support These Goals

  • Ensure your child attends school daily and arrives on time.
  • Encourage a focus on learning and completing assignments at home.
  • Partner with us to promote a positive and respectful school culture.

Your support and involvement are key to our success. Together, we can create a learning environment where every student thrives. Thank you for being an essential part of our school community.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please donโ€™t hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Comeaux, Principal

During a recent Coffee Talk with Mayor White, VPSB Superintendent Tommy Byler, and Community Outreach Coordinator Kristin Moore, we addressed a key issue facing our schools: chronic absenteeism. It became clear that our schools need a strong push to improve attendance and support student success. Thatโ€™s why weโ€™re launching the "๐€๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ง๐ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐–๐ž ๐€๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐–๐ข๐ง" campaign, uniting students, families, local businesses, and community organizations to make a real difference!

๐†๐จ๐š๐ฅ:

To reach a 92% attendance rate across all Abbeville schools for the second nine-week period. Achieving this goal will help students stay engaged, reach their full potential, and make the most of their educational experience.

๐Š๐ž๐ฒ ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž:

When a school meets the 92% attendance goal, celebrate with a special event to honor the hard work of students, teachers, and families. These events will showcase the positive momentum and the great things happening in our schools!

๐‚๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ญ๐จ ๐€๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง:

๐‘บ๐’•๐’–๐’…๐’†๐’๐’•๐’”: Make every day count by attending school regularly.

๐‘ญ๐’‚๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’†๐’”: Support your child in overcoming any challenges that may impact their attendance.

๐‘ช๐’๐’Ž๐’Ž๐’–๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š ๐‘ด๐’†๐’Ž๐’ƒ๐’†๐’“๐’”: Help us foster a culture that values education and its positive impact on our community.

Weโ€™re inviting local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations to join us in making a positive impact. If you can offer rewards, like discounts or small treats, to students who achieve perfect attendance, email tommy.byler@vpsb.net

Your involvement can make a difference in helping encourage and motivate!

Join us in supporting our students and fostering a community that values education. Together, we can ensure every student has the resources they need to attend school consistently. If youโ€™re interested in partnering, reach out and be a part of this important initiative!

We are so excited to continue to offer this wonderful technological tool to all of our students. Students will be issued a daily use Chromebook to complete activities; however, Chromebooks will remain on campus unless a need arises for remote learning.

Students must be in their homeroom no later than 7:23 to receive their Chromebooks in homeroom. Any student arriving after this time will not be allowed to go to homeroom to pick up their Chromebook (so as to not disturb that class). We appreciate your efforts in having students arrive at school on time.
