Dear RedHawk Families,

A HUGE shout out to all of our families that were able to make it in the past week for Back to School Night 2026. It was fantastic to see parents navigating lockers, finding their classes and making connections. It may seem cheesy but we enjoy seeing you do those things just like we enjoy the kids doing it. There is something to be said about the small wins. I had several parents stop me at the end of the night to share how valuable they felt their time was and thank our staff for the opportunity to come in. Our theme of Together, we SOAR! In only as meaningful as the time we invest in each other. I would like to extend an offer to give feedback on the evening’s structures and information through this google form. Please know we use that feedback to drive the events moving forward. A special shout out to our PTO for giving that feedback on year’s past to inform this year’s event.

A few quick notes I wanted to include in our newsletter this week include a reminder around our district cell phone procedures. These procedures also include things like smart watches and meta glasses. Those types of devices are all expected to be off and away during the school day. Students who are found with those devices will be handled in accordance with those procedures.

Go RedHawks!

Parking Lot/Dismissal Update

A BIG THANK YOU to our families who continue to follow our parking lot and arrival/dismissal procedures. I would reiterate that our parking lot cannot support staff and families parking so please follow expectations so we can protect instructional minutes.

For dismissal - a reminder that all students who are getting picked up should be picked up at The Norris Recreation Center. Students who need to be picked up due to medical arrangements (i.e. crutches) should call the office or nurse to arrange a special pick up either after the buses or in the back lot. We need to get buses out by 2:57 p.m. each day and in order to do that - we must keep our parking lot clear.

For your convenience, we are including the link to the arrival & dismissal slides with videos. These were shared out in the newsletter prior to the first day of school. These are also located in your WMS Family Handbook. Please help us get all of our buses dismissed in a timely manner as we share routes with the elementary schools.

Transportation Concerns?

Thank you for your patience as our students are navigating dismissal procedures and our bus processes. It is very much appreciated!

With rare exceptions, the best way to approach any transportation concerns is to directly contact the D303 Transportation Department. The vast majority of transportation issues are handled by this department, rather than by the school.

We know that reaching them by phone can be challenging. Their webpage is full of useful information including a FAQ section. If you are unable to find answers to your questions, you can always complete their "Bus Stop Location Change Request Form."

Please understand that they are working hard to support the transportation needs of over 12,000 students at 18 locations each day. Wredling alone has over 30 daily buses. This is an overwhelming undertaking!

Attendance Notifications Attendance Notifications

Attendance & Synergy ParentVue

Thank you for your ongoing patience as we are all learning this new system together. We really appreciate it!

Synergy ParentVue allows you to set up your notification preferences related to your students' attendance. As a result, you may receive a notification of tardiness or an unverified class period. PLEASE DO NOT PANIC! Many times the entry has already been updated before you contact us.

When questioning an absence or tardy for a single class period, you should contact that classroom teacher directly for clarification.

Listed below are several common reasons for an individual class period entry:

  • Student was late to class with or without a pass
  • Their class had a sub
  • Student not in their PE squad line for attendance
  • Student on a field trip
  • Student testing in alternative location
  • Student meeting with someone in student services
  • Many more not listed here

We reconcile
all absences on a period-by-period basis each day. The vast majority of these are cleared by the end of the day and ParentVue is updated! At the end of the day, all absences we were unable to clear are then converted into unexcused absences.

See the WMS Student Absence Process linked at the end of the this section .

Early PickUp and Synergy ParentVue

We have discovered that you can add an Early PickUp in ParentVue. Unfortunately, we are not receiving those notifications, YET. We are all still learning all that Synergy has to offer and hope to have that notification up and running soon. In the meantime, please follow our process for Early Pickup that is outlined in the WMS Student Absence Process graphic below.

FVTC presents: THE LIGHTNING THIEF

As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus”s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure “worthy of the gods” (Time Out New York).
