Working with Waffles
An Intro to Foods student wanted to learn how to make waffles so Mrs. Lehrke reached out to an expert-- Mrs. Schaefer!--who gave up her prep time to teach the class about the consistency of the perfect waffle batter and gave them several helpful hints on using the variety of waffle irons that are in the cooking lab. Additionally, during her presentation, she gave students many examples of physics in the kitchen! The students then took their new skills to master their own perfect batter and golden waffles this week.
State Art Winners
A big congratulations to the students who participated in the State Art Competition in Aberdeen last week. Brooklyn Youngman received 3rd place for Class A Photography and Berklee Steen was the champion of Class A Watercolor. Well Done!
Hanging Out with George
It’s that time of the year again! Students are showcasing their knowledge through oral recitations on the 11 human body systems, highlighting important parts and how they work together. Pictured above are Bella and Ms. Chan, using "George" the skeleton to study the skeletal system.
Delta Math and Vitamin D
Nice temperatures and sunny days can make staying inside to learn tough for both teachers and students. Ms. Cha's Algebra I students took their practice to the sun earlier this week.
Sisseton Wahpeton College of Nursing Program students and staff visited SHS this week to provide an opportunity for students to experience the VR goggles used in the anatomy and nursing programs. The goggles simulated patients in need of medical help and students had to prep them to recieve treament, as well as give injections. Students also spoke with the representatives about their interests and how that might relate to their plans for after graduation and career planning.
Homework Help
Stay caught up with your homework and grades by participating in Homework Help every Thursday in the SHS library from 3:20-5:00 pm. Come for a quiet space to work and extra support from teachers.
