Green Team News
Collection for Our Troops (November 1-11)
From November 1 through November 11 (Veterans Day), the Green Team will be collecting hotel/sample-sized toiletries, as well as new toothbrushes, floss, toothpaste and mouthwash on behalf of Operation: Care and Comfort, which delivers care packages to troops overseas. Items should be dropped off with Mrs. Roberts in the Media Center. Students who include a drawing or note of appreciation will receive a house point.
Plastic Film for House Points
Our next collection will be Thursday, November 5. Items that fall into this category are: shipping mailers, grocery and produce bags, zipper-top bags, bubble wrap, bread bags and newspaper bags. Rule of thumb: If you can push your finger through the plastic and stretch it, then it’s plastic film. Learn more here. The top three houses will earn 30, 20 and 10 points, respectively.
Recycling Product of the Month
Our featured item for October will be ARM & Hammer and OxiClean plastic pouches (laundry detergent and baking soda). For this product only, we will be offering one house point for each pouch turned in by Friday, October 30. Items should be marked with your student’s name and homeroom teacher and brought to Mrs. Roberts in the Media Center.
Our first shipment of Takis packaging weighed in at 1.6 pounds! We will continue to collect Takis as well as other items listed in the Green Team Store, including squeezable snack pouches and Kroger-brand packaging, but these items will be awarded one point for five items, three points for 10 items and five points for 15 items. See a full list of accepted items on the Green Team website.
NOTE: Collection of bottle caps has ended. However, you can continue to recycle them by replacing them on the bottle or carton from which they came. We are still collecting pull tabs and plastic bread tags that can be recycled through Ridwell.
Parents Needed!
Are you a parent who is passionate about the environment and wants to make our school a more sustainable place? Then come join the Green Team! We need adults to assist and oversee our student volunteers who help with composting and recycling during breakfast and lunch service at school.
