Get to know your Falcon Zone Executive Assistant
Hi, my name is Sharon Guy, and I am the Falcon Zone Executive Assistant. Iโve been part of the district for 18 years, spending 13 of those years in the Falcon Zone.
My journey in education began as a substitute teacher, a SpEd teacherโs assistant, and a SpEd records secretary. I also spent time as a second-grade teacher at Rocky Mountain Classical Academy. Over the years, I've discovered that I truly enjoy working in the office, especially when it comes to managing school budgets, all while still engaging with students and parents. This led me to roles as an Administrative Assistant at Falcon Elementary and Bennett Ranch Elementary, and Iโve now been serving as the Falcon Zone Executive Assistant for the past two years.
Outside of work, Iโve been happily married for nearly 36 years. Iโm a proud mother of two sons, a mother-in-law to two wonderful daughters-in-law, and the grandmother of a lively 2-year-old grandson. My immediate family is all based here in Colorado Springs, which I feel incredibly lucky for. My dad was in the Navy, and I lived in Guam for six years. Iโve called Colorado home for over 45 years. We love to travel, and Iโve recently discovered that Hawaii is my favorite destination.
In my role as the FZ Executive Assistant, I support all our zone schools with budgets, fees, and large expenditures. I take pride in ensuring that financial operations run smoothly and that all accounts are balanced and accurate. I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with building administrative assistants and principals to help keep everything running smoothly.
Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA)
The Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum is used in all 4 Falcon Zone Elementary Schools and is engaging for students because it combines structured, knowledge-building content with interactive, multisensory learning experiences.
- Rich Storytelling & Content Knowledge โ CKLA uses engaging, high-quality texts that expose students to diverse topics in history, science, literature, and culture, keeping them curious and interested.
- Interactive Read-Alouds โ Teachers read complex texts aloud while incorporating discussion, comprehension checks, and interactive questioning, making learning more accessible and engaging.
- Hands-on Activities โ CKLA integrates activities like dramatizations, drawing, and writing exercises to reinforce learning in fun and meaningful ways.
- Cross-Curricular Connections โ The program builds knowledge systematically, connecting what students learn in language arts to other subjects like social studies and science.
- Explicit Phonics & Skills Instruction โ The structured approach to phonics and foundational reading skills makes it easier for early readers to gain confidence and success in literacy.
- Student Discussion & Engagement โ CKLA encourages students to participate in meaningful discussions, fostering critical thinking and engagement.
- Multimedia & Visual Supports โ The curriculum often incorporates visuals, audio supports, and digital tools to enhance understanding and engagement.
- Cumulative Knowledge-Building โ Students revisit and build on topics over time, which helps deepen understanding and maintain interest.
All Falcon Zone Schools have an active PTA!
Joining your schoolโs PTA is one of the best ways to stay connected, informed, and involved in your childโs education. As a member, youโll have a voice in decisions that impact students, build meaningful relationships with teachers and other families, and gain firsthand insight into school events and initiatives. PTAs create stronger school communities by organizing enrichment programs, funding resources, and advocating for policies that support students. When families get involved, students thriveโbenefiting from increased parental engagement, more extracurricular opportunities, and a well-supported learning environment. Plus, volunteering with the PTA helps shape the future of your childโs education while developing leadership skills and making a real difference. Whether you have a little time or a lot, your involvement mattersโbecause when schools and families work together, everyone wins!
School Accountability Committees
Get involved and make a difference in your school community by joining the School Accountability Committee (SAC)! SACs bring together parents, teachers, administrators, and community members to ensure our schools are providing the best possible education for students. As a member, youโll have a voice in shaping school improvement plans, monitoring academic performance, advising on budget priorities, and strengthening family engagement. Your input helps guide important decisions, including funding allocations and principal evaluations. This is a great opportunity to stay informed, collaborate with school leadership, and advocate for student success.
Your voice mattersโjoin the SAC and help shape the future of our schools!
Beginning this school year, the Falcon Zone is moving to a Zone-Wide SAC model and we hope that this will
- encourage more community members to get involved with our schools without having to attend 6 different school meetings.
- allow for zone-level information (like curriculum adoptions) to be shared with all SACs, ensuring everyone hears the same message.
- replace the Falcon Zone Coalition and allow us to partner with the community more.
- allow for zone level event planning, which our community has voiced they want more community-wide/zone-wide/school-wide events to help with the "small town" Falcon feel.
After the short, zone-level SAC meeting, each building will break out into building-level SACs as required by CDE. We also provide dinner at each meeting beginning at 5:00!
