Good Morning,

There is no school on Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. We hope our students and families enjoy the long weekend!

Super Friend
Last week, we celebrated WECC’s Super Friends. We are so proud of our students for working hard every day to be Kind, Safe, and a Good Friend!

We are so happy to say that we see our students practicing the listening rules at school—using listening ears, looking eyes, calm bodies, and quiet voices. These skills help create a positive and respectful learning environment for everyone. Way to go, Super Friends!

To families that send in snack/lunch:

For your child’s safety, please make sure all foods that could pose a choking risk are sent to school cut appropriately. Items such as grapes, cherry tomatoes, hot dogs, and similar foods should be cut into small pieces (lengthwise when appropriate) before being packed for lunch or snack.

Taking this extra step helps keep mealtimes safe for all students. Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our school community healthy and safe!

PreK Registration information for school year 2026-2027:

A reminder that letters went home this week via student backpack about PreK registration, for the next school year. Letters need to be returned no later than January 23rd.

Fostering Student Independence:

As we approach the halfway point of the school year, many of our Pre-K students have become adept in learning classroom routines, schedules, and expectations. Consistent routines between home and school are essential in helping children feel secure and successful. Encouraging your child to use the bathroom independently, practicing proper hygiene, and communicating wants and needs helps build your child's independence and readiness for the classroom.

At home, please continue to encourage your child to pack their own backpack, pull up their pants after using the bathroom, zip or button jackets, and manage personal belongings. When children are given opportunities to practice these skills, it fosters independence, confidence, responsibility, and growth that will benefit them throughout their school experience.

We truly appreciate your continued support at home, as it plays a vital role in reinforcing these skills and ensuring a positive experience for your child at school.

A reminder about Keeping Our Schools Healthy and Safe

Maintaining a healthy school environment is a shared responsibility. Please help keep our school communities as healthy as possible by following these recommendations. If you have questions about symptoms or if symptoms persist, consult your healthcare provider.

Healthy habits that make a difference:

  • Stay home when you are ill.

  • Practice good hygiene, including regular handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and keeping frequently touched surfaces clean.

How to Teach Your Child to Appropriately Get Your Attention

About this Series

The Backpack Connection Series was created by TACSEI to provide a way for teachers and parents/caregivers to work together to help young children develop social emotional skills and reduce challenging behavior.

Each Backpack Connection handout provides information that helps parents stay informed about what their child is learning at school and specific ideas on how to use the strategy or skill at home.
