Hawk Squawk Newsletter 2/2/23
Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
And, just like that, January is over and February has begun! This month, we'll be learning about our character trait HONESTY, which we define as being truthful in what you say and do. Honesty is one of three traits we study over the course of the year that help students Be Well. Read the counseling monthly newsletter, explore more about our plans and discover some fun family activities in Ms E's Counseling Corner below.
In addition, we'll be celebrating Friendship Day, holding a STEAM Night and acknowledging our amazing OBOB readers among many other engaging things this month! It may be a short month, but it's delightfully full of fun activities.
Have a wonderful day!
Melissa Griffiths

Friendship Day!
At Hallinan we will be celebrating Valentine's/Friendship Day on February 14th with a classroom activity that includes a Valentine card exchange. Students are encouraged to create their own boxes/bags and valentine cards at home and bring them to school on Tuesday, February 14th. These cards should NOT contain any edible items. Please remember that students should bring in enough cards for each classmate. Look for additional guidance and a list of student names from your classroom teachers.
Friendship Grams
The focus of February is love and kindness! Students can spread the love by purchasing a Friendship Gram for family, classmates, friends, and teachers! Purchase each gram for $1 at the school store, fill out your message, and drop it in the Hallinan Heart Mailbox by February 13th. Each Friendship Gram will include a Yumearth Lollipop and will be delivered to classrooms on Tuesday, February 14th.
Our team of volunteers wants to ensure it is a fun and safe event for all children. We do our best to provide food options that are inclusive of our students with allergies. Yumearth Lollipop Ingredients: organic cane sugar, organic brown rice syrup, citric acid, ascorbic acid, natural flavors, colored with organic concentrate (carrot, apple, blackcurrant).
- free from: peanuts, gluten, tree nuts, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, soy and sesame.

OBOB
OBOB Battles have begun! The students are doing a great job showing off all the work they've put in over the last couple of months. Thank you to all the parents, coaches, and volunteers who've helped to bring OBOB back to its full potential this year. Not only have your children had the opportunity to read a variety of quality literature, but they have also shown cooperative learning skills within their teams, all while having fun. If your student missed their first battle their t-shirts are in the front office. Please stop by and pick them up.
Recess Monitors are Needed!
Ever wonder what recess is all about? Now you have an opportunity to help Hallinan and hang out with students at recess as a recess monitor! Our lovely, hard-working teachers have requested parental help monitoring recess. If you would like to sign up for a spot do so now. This is bound to be popular!

District Information
Standards-Based District Report Card
The Lake Oswego School District uses a standards-based report card for students in elementary schools. This report card measures a child’s progress toward proficiency or mastery of the priority standards in Reading, Writing, Language, Speaking, and Math.
This approach provides the means for communicating a child’s learning in more specific terms. Standards-based reporting articulates clear end-of-year grade-level standards for each subject. Using the scale below, teachers will communicate where a child resides on a learning continuum by indicating the student’s progress toward mastery of each identified grade-level standard.

2023-24 School Year Registration Now Open

See the Registration & Verification page of the LOSD website for guidance. Parents/guardians do not need to register students for 2023-24 who are currently attending during the 2022-23 school year.
