Dear Doyon Families,
Another fantastic week has come and gone at the Paul F. Doyon Memorial School! Thank you to everyone who joined us for Curriculum Night. It was wonderful to share the important work happening each day and to strengthen the connection between home and school.
Arriving at school on Monday morning, staff and students were greeted with a sweet, seasonal surprise! Thanks to FRIES and the Doyon Beautification Team, the front of our building looks especially festive and welcoming. We truly appreciate the time and care that went into brightening our entrance! If you haven't yet seen it, we've included a picture in this week's Doyon News!
Our fifth graders carried on their tradition of visiting Project Adventure, where they participated in team-building activities that foster cooperation, responsibility, empathy, and self-control. This experience has proven to be a positive highlight and helps students build confidence and connections with one another.
During morning announcements, we have welcomed a number of students to the Main Office to share ways in which they can show cooperation! Learners across grade-levels have done a fantastic job of identifying different ideas. Next week, we will dig into assertion. More updates to come!
We are also looking forward to Spooky Walk tomorrow! Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers and to FRIES for making this event possible.
Thank you, as always, for your support and partnership. We are grateful to share this journey with you and look forward to the weeks ahead. Please be in touch with any questions and wonderings.
Warmly,
Mr. Whitehouse-Mullen & Mrs. Benincasa
Doyon CARES
Beginning next week, our morning CARES Connection will shift the spotlight to this attribute. In preparation, we invite you to discuss assertion at home. Consider talking to your children about what assertion means to you, perhaps sharing when and how you assert yourself, in ways that kids can understand or relate to.
School Safety
Curious about school safety procedures? Take a peek at the documents displayed below. These documents are shared with students at the start of the school year by Detective Joe Perna, our School Resource Officer. The documents may serve as a guide to support families in discussing school safety. As always, please be in touch with questions around school safety at the Paul F. Doyon Memorial School.

Small FRIES
No Boo’s About It!
The Small FRIES are proud to launch their very first child-led fundraiser—a Band-Aid Drive in support of our school nurse, Mrs. Sforza!
From October 1st – October 31st, families are encouraged to send in a small box of band-aids. There will be a box outside in the front of the school or students are welcome to drop them off to the front desk. It may seem simple, but these little donations will make a big impact in keeping Nurse Sforza’s office stocked and ready for every boo-boo.
Have fun with it—scoop up the silliest, spookiest, or most colorful band-aids you can find!
We are so thankful for even the smallest support—because every single box adds up to comfort, care, and smiles for our Doyon kids.
Together, this small initiative will make a big difference as the year progresses.
Thank you,
Your Small FRIES
Green Team News!
Here is the recipe we used:
3 large tomatoes, diced
1/2 white onion, small dice
1 lime, juiced
1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro
1/2 teaspoon salt
Stir all ingredients together in a large bowl. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
Can add diced fresh jalapeño as well to make it spicy! Or add all ingredients together a blender and pulse to make a smooth salsa. Enjoy with corn tortilla chips.
🎃 The Green Team is still collecting used Halloween costumes for our costume shop and swap at the Spooky Walk. The collection bin will outside of Doyon until Thursday October 2nd! 🎃
Nurse's Notes
Hello Doyon Families,
The symptom of the week was: Sore throat! There were many culprits including post-nasal drip, strep throat, and some hand, foot, and mouth.
Strep throat is an infection in the throat/tonsils caused by group A streptococcus. It is most common in children 5-15 and rare in children under 3 (but possible) . The signs and symptoms include: fever, pain when swallowing, red/swollen tonsils, white patches or streaks in throat, tiny red spots on roof of mouth (petechiae), swollen lymph nodes, headache, stomach pain, nausea/vomiting, and also can present as a fine sand-papery rash.
The treatment is antibiotics as well as supportive care including tylenol/motrin, encouraging fluids, soothing foods such as popsicles, and avoiding acidic foods/beverages which can be irritating. In addition, you should discard your child's toothbrush after 48 hours of antibiotic treatment.
If you suspect your child may have strep throat, please visit your pediatrician or urgent care facility for a rapid/throat culture.
I hope you all have a great weekend as we head into October- Let's scare all those germs away! Please also be sure to sign up for the flu clinic!
Please reach out if you have any questions.
