Art-Spanish Día de los Muertos Collaboration Project
Ms. Delai's art classes along with Ms Kennedy's Spanish classes did 3 different collaboration projects to learn about and celebrate Día de los Muertos. One group of students made canvases of skulls to honor a person or pet who has passed. They incorporated images and colors associated with Day of the Dead along with things to represent the person honored. Another group made calacas with polymer clay, or skeleton figurines, which were made popular by José Guadalupe Posada and are commonly used as decoration during this celebration. The last group made skull máscaras, or masks, typically worn during this time. The students seemed to really enjoy this collaboration, and so did our teachers! The Spanish Club also set up a small ofrenda, or offering, to honor a few pets who have passed.
NBHS FCCLA Attends the Fall Leadership Conference
32 New Berlin students and Mrs McClarey joined roughly 300 FCCLA students from area schools at the Springfield Fall Leadership Conference. Students were led by Patty Hendrickson through leadership experiences, networking, and team building activities. Fun and learning was had by all. Click below to view the album of activities from the day.
NBHS FFA Attends National Convention
Last week, members of the NBHS FFA took a trip to the National Convention. This gave our students the opportunity to meet other members from across the nation, they talked to industry professionals, met individuals from colleges across the nation, and attended sessions to learn more about what is going on across the nation in FFA.
It was a great opportunity for our students to hang out, play games and mingle with other members. Their time was spent at sessions, attending the career/college expo, taking industry tours around Indianapolis, and having team bonding time!
Spanish Club Starts Winter Clothing Drive

Public Illinois colleges have partnered with the Common App and ISAC for a new process called "One Click College Admissions." The process is different for Seniors than for Juniors. The PDF documents below with links and screenshots should help assist with the process.
Students - when setting up a Common App account, please use a personal (non- New Berlin school) email that you have access to.
If you have further questions, please reach out and Dr. Viola will be discussing this further throughout the school year as well.

What is 211?
With approximately 1.5 million nonprofit organizations in the United States plus scores of
government agencies, finding help can be confusing and intimidating. People who need help
often do not know where to begin.
211 call centers are staffed by trained specialists who quickly assess the callers’ needs and
refer them to the help they seek. It’s simple to remember, accessible to everyone, toll-free,
available 24/7, with multilingual capabilities.
211 in Sangamon and Menard County is funded by United Way of Central Illinois. By bringing
this service to the community, especially at a time when more individuals and families need
health and human service support, United Way is fulfilling its mission of mobilizing resources to
meet community needs.
