The Woodland Weekly
September 3, 2026
Dear Woodland School Families,
We have loved hearing the laughter of students filling our hallways again and are eagerly looking forward to welcoming our preschoolers on Tuesday! We were so impressed with how confidently our kindergarten students entered school on Wednesday, ready to learn and begin their Woodland journey. We are confident our newest preschool friends will do just as well.
At Woodland School, The Woodland Way guides everything we do. Every adult in our building strives to:
- Inspire a love of learning
- Nurture kindness and curiosity
- Encourage every child's unique potential
- Develop caring, engaged members of our community
- Ensure Woodland is a fun, safe, and supportive place for all, both emotionally and physically
To support this vision, we teach our students to follow CARES:
Cooperation
Acting Responsibly
Respecting All
Exhibiting Effort
Showing Self-Control
We would love your partnership in reinforcing these values at home. CARES isn't just something we practice at school. It's a way of interacting with others every day.
When siblings are having trouble sharing, remind them that Cooperation is part of CARES and The Woodland Way. If a child is struggling to keep their hands and feet to themselves, talk about how Showing Self-Control helps keep everyone safe.
Most importantly, look for opportunities to catch your child doing the right thing and recognize those positive choices. When your child cleans up a mess without being asked, celebrate them Acting Responsibly. Hearing "please" and "thank you"? That's a wonderful example of Respecting All. There are countless ways children demonstrate CARES each day, both at school and at home. By using the same language and celebrating these behaviors together, we help students understand that kindness, responsibility, respect, effort, cooperation, and self-control are values that extend far beyond the classroom.
Together, we can build a community of learners who make Woodland a place where everyone feels welcome, valued, supported, and inspired to thrive.
Warmly,
Emma Rood, Principal

Arrival and Dismissal...Thank You!!
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been parking and walking with their child(ren). Yesterday's dismissal ran more smoothly than ever. The car line moved quickly, buses were called sooner, and students were able to get on their way home more efficiently. Your patience, flexibility, and willingness to help have made a tremendous difference, and we truly appreciate your partnership in making our end-of-day routines successful.
If you choose to walk and arrive after Mrs. Casey has left to collect car numbers, please stop by the front office and Mrs. Hinckley will be happy to add you to the walking list.
And a special thank you to the parent who helped us identify this gap in our process. We truly appreciate your feedback and partnership. It takes a village, and working together helps us make Woodland even better for our students and families!
Thank you for all you do to support our school community. The Woodland Way is strongest when we work together! 🌲💚
Upcoming Drills
A quick note for families: we will be conducting a fire drill sometime next week and a lockdown drill before October ends. While some students find drills exciting, others may feel a little nervous. Please reassure your child that we practice these drills throughout the year so everyone knows what to do in an emergency, and that their teachers and other adults will always be there to keep them safe.
