Kindergarten “Move-a-Thon”

Please join us for the fall Snail Lake PTO’s Move-a-Thon! Our Move-a-Thon promotes physical activity and movement while also raising money for our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Dates will be October 21 - November 3, 2026.

Ways to Participate:

  1. MOVE! We encourage every student to move their body each and every day!

  2. PLEDGE! Use the included pledge sheet to get family and friends to sponsor your student. Donations can be a set dollar amount or can be based on a per-minute pledge. Donations and pledge activity are optional. More than anything, we want students to move their bodies!

  3. TRACK! We encourage families to track their student’s physical activity at home from October 21 - November 3, 2026. Students can move by themselves or they can move their bodies with others (families, friends, or even their stuffed animals).

  4. RETURN! By November 5, return all the sheets (the minute tracker as well as any pledges or donations you’ve received) to school in the envelope provided. We will tally up all minutes students have moved as well as donations received.

In spring 2027, we will have a “Read-a-thon” which gets kids excited about becoming lifelong readers! More to come in the spring!

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school and community!

Popcorn Celebration

A few times in the year, we wish to celebrate building-wide milestones with a special experience - a popcorn party! Please see the nutrition label attached. If you wish to send in an alternative snack for your student, please complete this form by November 2, 2026. The front office will reach out to those families that wish to send an alternative prior to the date of a planned popcorn party so an alternative can be sent to school.

T-Shirt Donations

We recently celebrated our first Future Mustang School Spirit Day. Each student received a Future Mustang T-shirt. If you haven’t had a chance to donate toward the cost of the t-shirt you may still do so! Donations can be sent in your child’s folder labeled “future mustang t-shirt” or you may donate electronically through the PTO via the QR codes pictured below. Thank you so much for your support!

Making Screen Time more meaningful

When it comes to screen time for students in schools, educational leaders everywhere are asking some common questions.

  • Is less screen time the only approach?
  • How can schools improve the quality of screen time?
  • Can screen time be justified if it has a meaningful impact on learning?

And with the increasing use of AI, school districts are faced with even more challenges to navigate.

This fall, Mounds View Public Schools will consider these issues and more as it convenes a steering committee to provide recommendations to the School Board. Throughout the school year, the group will solicit community feedback and look at four main areas related to educational technology.

  • Developing screen time usage guidelines
  • Creating an AI usage framework
  • Considering laptop and device monitoring tools
  • Defining active and passive use of technology

Farm to School Thursdays

This Farm to School Thursday, students enjoyed locally-produced beef meatballs from Rancher’s Legacy and Minnesota-grown delicata squash. Meatballs provide protein to help build and maintain strong muscles, while delicata squash provides vitamin A to support healthy vision.

Students can receive urgent text alerts

Parents, you can add your child's cell phone number to ParentVUE so they can receive text messages and robo-calls about school closings, significantly delayed school buses, emergencies and other alerts. To subscribe your student to these occasional urgent messages, read the easy instructions here.

Library News

This week we read the book Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds. Ask your child about the carrots we found creeping around our school, and how our students worked together to make them go home.
