State Assessments Coming Up After Spring Break
After spring break, Michigan’s annual state assessment window opens. These assessments help families, teachers and schools gain a clearer picture of how students are growing and learning throughout the year. They also show how well students are building the knowledge and skills needed for success in the next grade level and beyond high school, whether that path leads to a career, college or the military.
Depending on grade level, students may take the M-STEP, PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10 or the Michigan Merit Examination (including the WIN Work Readiness Assessment) in grade 11, which includes the SAT along with science and social studies tests. While no single test tells the whole story of a student’s learning, these assessments provide helpful information that allows teachers and schools to celebrate progress and identify where additional support may help students continue to grow.
Families play an important role in helping students feel confident and prepared. A few simple things can make a big difference: encouraging your child to do their best, helping them get a good night’s sleep and making sure they arrive at school on time and ready to focus during testing days.
Students may also feel more confident when they know what to expect. Michigan provides practice questions and online tools so students can explore the testing format ahead of time.
Families can help their students prepare with M-STEP practice tests.
Students preparing for the PSAT or SAT can find additional practice resources through College Board: SAT Suite of Assessments
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child’s learning and success.

FHS Students Compete at Michigan DECA Conference
Several students represented Fowlerville High School last week at the Michigan DECA State Career Development Conference held in Detroit, where they competed alongside students from across the state in a variety of business and marketing events.
Seven DECA members participated in competitive categories including Business Financial Management, Quick Service Restaurant Management, Leadership and Teamwork, Human Resource Management and Sports and Entertainment Marketing.
As part of the competition, students first completed written exams focused on their selected business topics. Then, they participated in role-play simulations where they were given real-world business scenarios and asked to demonstrate their problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills in front of judges.
The conference provided students with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world business situations while networking with other members of DECA from across Michigan.

High-Tech Tools for Success
This year is particularly exciting as the district’s special education department supports 15 students who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. You might see students in our buildings using tablets or specialized "talkers" to communicate. These devices aren't just gadgets; they are a voice for students who are still finding their spoken words.
To make sure our students are heard, we’ve partnered with LESA’s AAC consultant Megan Makowski to train our teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff.
