Mrs. Horne

Students in Mrs. Horne's room have been working hard to complete their Autobiography Island Projects. The project began with students creating a map of an island using the letter of their first or last name. They were required to have 10 elements in their legend, all creative characteristics that represented their personalities. Students also needed to incorporate the components of B.O.L.T.S.S, which stands for Border, Orientation, Legend, Title, Scale, and Source. The second piece to the project was a newspaper article providing tourists with reasons to visit their island. They had to discuss a restaurant, lodging, and an attraction while applying their knowledge of using a map scale to explain the distances between locations. Attached are some pictures of their final products and they turned out AMAZING!

Mrs. Zeman's 5th grade Science

Ms. Zeman's 5th grade science classes rolled up their sleeves and began a very GREEN decomposer lab. Each lab group was assigned one slice of fresh bread to observe during the next 10 days. The bread specimens will be placed in the dark shadows of locker #26 and the question that lingers...How many days will it take for the "green mold monster" to completely overtake their slice of bread? Only the 5th graders and locker #26 can solve this mystery.

S'more Context Clues and Campfire Fun with Mrs. Stillwell

Mrs. Stillwell's crew of campers recently embarked on a fantastic educational adventure! They packed their mental backpacks to go "Camping for Context Clues," where they had to use their wits and textual evidence to decode the secret meaning of some "nonsense words" in a camping tale. Talk about a "tent-sational" challenge!

Next, they gathered 'round as Mrs. Stillwell read aloud from a camping story. These clever little trailblazers had to "pitch their ideas" and determine the meaning of some camp themed words.

The exploration didn't stop there! They then set out on a thrilling "hike" around campus, stretching their legs before returning for the sweet reward of S'mores! This was the first time one of her students had tasted one!

To cap off their "trail-blazing" success, their classroom magically transformed into a cozy "campsite" where they enjoyed a relaxing screening of the movie, Camp Rock. The day was absolutely "in-tents" with fun, learning, and plenty of "happy campers" who left with a desire to "pitch in" and learn even "s'more" next time!

Steve Hayhurst, PE Teacher

Years in the district: 24
If you were to receive a fun school year superlative, what would it be? Mr. Shenanigan/Mr. Funny Guy

What is a phrase, rule, or motto you often share with students? Every choice you make has consequences, good and bad. So use good integrity when making your choices!

What’s your go-to drink and/or snack order to get through the day? Chocolate milk; granola bar

What does being a "Middie" mean to you? This is my 24th year in the district. I have seen many many great students/educators/staff members come and go. Being a Middie to me means I get to wake up each day and help students, staff, and families build memories, as well as add to the successes that have been paved well before many of us were here.

Roberta Plas, LRC Paraprofessional

Years in the district: 18
If you were to receive a fun school year superlative, what would it be? Best Book Fair.

What is a phrase, rule, or motto you often share with students? It's ok not to finish a book you don't fine interesting. The library is full of books filled with new ideas and authors have lots of stories to share. Read what you like. Learn something new.

What’s your go-to drink and/or snack order to get through the day? A mid day tea is helpful.

What's one thing you hope students remember about you years from now? I would like students to remember they were always welcome in the library.
