Greetings LTUSD friends and families,

January is School Board Appreciation Month, and I would like to take a moment to recognize and thank our dedicated Board of Trustees for their service to our students, families, and community.

Thank you to Board President Lauri Kemper, Board Clerk Jon Hetherton, and Trustees Val Mansfield, Ellen Camacho, and Bob Anderson, Student Board members Arya Saini and Miri Lucksinger. Each of them gives generously of their time, energy, and expertise in support of LTUSD.

Our board members care deeply about student success and are committed to leading LTUSD with integrity, thoughtfulness, and a strong focus on what is best for kids. We are grateful for their leadership, guidance, and continued dedication to our schools.

Please join me in thanking our school board members for all they do on behalf of LTUSD.

Loop Bus Changes

Due to an unexpected shortage of available bus drivers, we have cut one of our afternoon bus routes. This change allowed us to consolidate runs and ensure that all students get home safely and on time.

Students who previously rode Route K Loop Bus will be reassigned to other buses in the afternoon only. Morning routes will remain unchanged.

To help you understand how this affects your child, an updated copy of all bus routes and stop times is available on the LTUSD website. Please review the new schedule carefully and compare it with the previous one to identify any changes to your child’s stop or arrival time.

Click on the bus for the updated bus schedule.

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His vision of justice, service, and compassion continues to inspire us to build inclusive communities where every individual is valued and respected. Reimagining Classrooms, Inspiring Learning!

Since 2022, LTUSD has proudly partnered with Meteor Education to reimagine learning spaces for our students. Together, we have designed and launched 13 innovative pilot classrooms across PreK–12, all focused on creating engaging, flexible, and student-centered environments. In addition to new furniture, pilot teachers have received targeted support on how to use these spaces to encourage collaboration, movement, and deeper learning.

This work continues to grow. Recently, the LTUSD Leadership Team participated in a meaningful professional development training hosted by Meteor Education, deepening our shared understanding of how intentionally designed space supports teaching and learning. Insights gained from both the pilot classrooms and the leadership training are now helping guide district-wide standards for future learning spaces, ensuring all students benefit from this innovative and forward-thinking work.

Pictured above are LTUSD leaders participating in the professional development training.

Celebrating the wonderful maintenance staff!

We can never thank our maintenance staff enough. Last week, the team took time to celebrate the outstanding work they do to keep our sites running smoothly. Fields and Facilities Senior Secretary Angela Ramirez prepared a wonderful lunch for the team. Thank you for all you do.

Every Child Belongs: Understanding Student Education Rights in California

All children in California have the following rights:

  • Right to a Free Public Education: All children have a right to equal access to free public education, regardless of their or their parents'/guardians' immigration status.

  • Information Required for School Enrollment: Schools must accept a variety of documents from the student's parent or guardian to demonstrate proof of the child's age or residency, and schools are not required to keep a copy of the document used as proof of the child's age.

  • Confidentiality of Personal Information: Federal and state laws protect student education records and personal information. These laws generally require that schools obtain written consent from parents or guardians before releasing student information, unless the release of information is for educational purposes, is already public, or is in response to a court order or subpoena.
