Week #4 Jackrabbits Learning Community

Greetings Jackrabbits Families:

We have completed the first three weeks of school therefor we wish you a happy start to the next week of learning. Our students were administered important assessments to help guide our planning and pacing of instruction. Last week, Texas Education Agency released STAAR results and made these results accessible through the family portal on Skyward. Detailed information on how to access your child's results for our scholars in current grades fourth and fifth.

District Public Relations department produced an instructional video on how to properly recite the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge. We will share this video with students, teachers and staff on Monday’s morning announcements. You can access the video with this link: https://youtu.be/78i97-u2wuY.

Construction continues on Mission Ridge Blvd due to the sink hole created by the water line break. This may delay traffic on the way to school. Please travel safe.

We do need your help by not parking illegally across the street from the campus. The streets on Bob Hope and Sky Blazer across from our building are not designated parking areas. Walking across the street especially with small children is not recommended as this creates an unsafe condition for pedestrians and drivers alike. Pedestrians are encouraged to cross only where manned cross walks are protected. Please drive and park safe around our students.

Student tardies are a parent issue. I do ask for your support in getting our students in the building prior to 7:45 a.m. Please make sure to plan accordingly so that your child(ren) are not penalized with lunch detention. Three tardies constitutes detention. I remind students to assist at home by setting an alarm, having backpacks and other materials ready so they are not rushing in the morning. Allowing scholars ample time for breakfast in the classroom to help transition into daily learning.

Thank you for entrusting our team with serving your child(ren).

At your service,

Fernando L. Miranda

School Principal

Important information from School Nurse Tarango

When should I keep my child home due to an illness?

My suggestions are...

  1. Do not send your child with a fever over 100.0 in the past 24 hours. Always be in communication with attendance in case child is absent. Child must be 24 hours fever free before returning to school without the use of fever reducing medication such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (Ibuprofen)
  2. Do not send your child with diarrhea or vomiting.
  3. Do not send your child with an infection that has discharge such as pink eye or impetigo (skin infection) without a doctor's note. In the case that pink eye cannot be ruled out, pick up will be required and student may return with a doctor's note or until redness and discharge improve.
  4. If your child is borderline sick they may try to go to school if there is no fever in the last 24 hours. Please be available for pick up if students' condition worsens or cannot make it through the day.

What if my child can attend school, but should not participate in physical activity?

A parent may excuse his/her child from physical activity with a written note for up to 3 days. If a child requires an excuse for a longer period of time, a note from a doctor is needed. When a child is excused from PE, he/she is not allowed to play during recess.

What if my child requires medication during school?

  1. All medications must be in the original container.
  2. All medication must have a written note by a physician licensed in Texas.
  3. All medication requires a written consent from the parent for nurse to administer medication.

Respectfully,
