A letter from Dr. Geaslen... A letter from Dr. Geaslen...

It is Homecoming Week in Granite Falls! 🧡🖤

There is something special about Homecoming Week in a community like ours. It is a time to celebrate our students, our traditions, our alumni, and the incredible Tiger pride that connects generations of Granite Falls families!

Please join us TONIGHT for our Homecoming football game at Tiger Stadium! Kickoff is at 7:00 PM, and we want to see our community dressed in ORANGE and BLACK!

We especially look forward to welcoming back our Granite Falls alumni. Whether you graduated recently or many years ago, you will always be a Tiger, and we hope you will come home to celebrate with us!

Homecoming is about so much more than a football game. It is about belonging, school spirit, and the connections that make Granite Falls such a wonderful place to live, learn, and grow.

Let's fill the stands, cheer loudly, and show everyone what TIGER PRIDE looks like!

Athletic Field Improvements: Exciting Progress Ahead!

We are excited about the progress our Athletic Field Improvement Levy Committee has made, and even more excited that work will be getting underway soon!

Thanks to the support of our Granite Falls community and the passage of our Capital Levy, we are moving forward with improvements that will ultimately provide more all-weather athletic fields for our students, families, and community to enjoy, many with lighting to expand opportunities for use throughout the year!

Our initial Phase 1 work will focus on the fields behind the Granite Falls High School tennis courts. This space is being planned to accommodate a full-size football field, a full-size soccer field, and two youth soccer fields, with lighting! These improvements will create more opportunities for our school athletic programs, youth sports organizations, and community members.

We are thrilled to share that the initial soil assessments and surveying have been completed, with positive results! All signs point to a busy winter of construction, and we have our fingers crossed that we could see activities taking place on these improved fields as early as late spring!

There is much more to come, and we look forward to keeping you updated as this exciting work progresses. Thank you, Granite Falls, for investing in facilities that will benefit our students and community for years to come!

Safety in Action at Monte Cristo Elementary

I had the opportunity to visit Monte Cristo Elementary this week, and while I was there, we experienced an unplanned fire alarm. Our students and staff did exactly what they were supposed to do, responding quickly, calmly, and following our safety procedures.

While we never want an unexpected alarm to interrupt the school day, I am grateful for these opportunities to put our safety procedures into practice. It was wonderful to see firsthand how well our students and staff responded. Safety is something we prepare for every day, and moments like these remind us why that preparation matters.

Thank you to our Monte Cristo staff and students for a job well done!

Leadership Academy: Students Making a Difference

This week, we also held our second Leadership Academy session at Granite Falls High School! Our student leaders are now working together to identify a need in our community and develop a service project that will make a meaningful difference.

I loved listening to their brainstorming, hearing their ideas, and seeing their genuine commitment to improving a community they clearly love. Their ideas ranged from improving public bus stops in Granite Falls by adding benches and weather coverings, to supporting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, to finding meaningful ways to honor and serve our veterans and first responders.

What struck me most was that every idea centered on helping others. Our kids have huge hearts, and they genuinely want to serve their community! They are thinking beyond themselves, recognizing needs around them, and asking what they can do to make life better for someone else. That is exactly the kind of leadership we hope to inspire!

I will keep you posted on the project they select and the work they do moving forward. It is always inspiring to spend time with our students. Their creativity, compassion, and enthusiasm for making a difference remind me just how bright our future is here in Granite Falls!

Thank You, Tiger Community!

As we wrap up another busy week, I continue to be grateful for the students, staff, families, and community members who make Granite Falls such a special place. Whether it is students stepping up to serve others, staff keeping our schools safe, or our community investing in opportunities for future generations, there is so much to celebrate.

I hope to see many of you at Tiger Stadium tonight as we celebrate Homecoming together!

Go Tigers!

Supporting Students with Disabilities

As national conversations continue about the future of special education, Granite Falls School District remains focused on what matters most: helping every student learn, belong, and succeed.

Students with disabilities are valued members of our school communities. Our work centers on strong instruction, opportunities to learn alongside peers, and individualized support. Families are essential partners, and your knowledge, questions, and ideas help us better understand and support your student.

If you have questions about your student’s special education services, please connect with their case manager or our Student Services team.

October Is AAC Awareness Month

Communication looks different for everyone! Some students use speech, while others use gestures, pictures, communication boards, or devices that speak aloud. These approaches are called augmentative and alternative communication, or AAC.

We can all help students feel included by speaking directly to them, giving them time to respond, and valuing the many ways they communicate. Communication helps students share their needs, express ideas, make friends, and participate in school and community life.

If your student uses AAC—or you have questions about communication supports—reach out to their teacher or speech-language pathologist. Working together helps students communicate across school, home, and community settings.

Thank you for helping us build a school community where every student’s voice matters!
