MPE Weekly Roar
March 15, 2024
Principal's Message
Good afternoon Mount Pleasant Elementary Families,
We had another wonderful, busy week at MPE! We started off the week with an ice cream party on Monday for all the 2nd round spelling bee participants. On Tuesday and Wednesday songwriter Steve Siskin worked with 4th and 5th graders to create an original inspirational song which they performed on Wednesday. We kicked off our new STEAM series - Infinity Sparks in honor of Ayana Walli. This series is aimed to give our 4th and 5th grade students a feel for what those in the STEAM fields are able to achieve, by putting their passion to purpose in real life. A special thank you to our first special guest, Priya Raina, who is also a local Livingston resident. Priya is Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations at AnaptysBio. We hope to inspire our students, for them to be curious, and maybe even discover their own path to a super STEAM job in the future!
Have a wonderful weekend and watch out for leprechauns!
Proud To Be MPE!

C.H.O.P. donations in honor of Ayana
Ayana Walli was a bright and creative 10-year-old who faced a rare medical condition with unwavering courage and optimism. Despite her challenges, she inspired everyone around her with her love for learning, art, and Legos. Ayana was a beloved student at MPE.
In her memory, we're raising funds for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Lego Robotics program. This initiative aims to bring joy and creativity to hospitalized children, just as Ayana did during her time there.
Your contribution will help us honor Ayana's spirit and make a difference in the lives of young patients. Let's come together to keep Ayana's memory alive and bring smiles to those who need it most.

Cultural Celebrations!
After a fun filled Hispanic Heritage celebration early this year, the Cultural Celebrations Committee is excited to bring another event to get everyone grooving. Hip-Hop recently celebrated its 50th birthday. And who doesn't like Hip Hop? Hip-Hop is woven into television and film, fashion, advertising, literature, politics and countless other corners of everyday life. It is lingua franca, impossible to avoid, and truly multicultural in today's times.
To be a class presenter and engage students with an activity celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop, please sign up HERE
Did you know that there are nearly 60 countries and cultures represented in the MPE Community?
At MPE, we want to celebrate what makes us different! Please join us as we help our children explore the world and all of the cultures at MPE! The Cultural Celebrations Committee facilitates several exciting celebrations observing various global cultures & traditions represented at MPE. This is made possible with help from amazing parent volunteers & presenters who run the show. The presenters deliver a short lesson followed by a hands-on experience (craft, game, dance, etc). It's imperative that parents lead by example through engaging in presentations of various cultures, not just their own. The presentations and activities are pre-created, reviewed and approved by the Cultural Celebrations Committee and its volunteers in partnership with the school administration

Changes to My School Bucks Fees
Due to rising payment processing interchange fees and increased operational costs, MySchoolBucks is adjusting the per-transaction program fee for school meals to $3.25 for each credit/debit card payment beginning on March 7. If you do not want to pay this per-transaction fee, you have the option of sending in a check made payable to the LPS Cafeteria Account into school with your child. Place checks in an envelope marked "Cafeteria." Checks must include your child's name and student ID number listed in the memo column so that the money is placed in the correct account.
