This Yellow Sheet (YS) is pretty long and definitely can be skimmed. There is a lot of information that schools are required to provide to families at the beginning of each school year. We have successfully finished the first full week of school!

Sophomores Pick Up Free Required Lock in Room 317

LaGuardia is transitioning from student-provided locks to school-provided locks to be used on school lockers. While Freshmen have received their locks, Sophomores will receive them the week of September 21 in Room 317. Students are responsible for their school-issued lock and must replace them if missing or damaged. Non-school issued locks will be cut. Students must return or replace locks upon leaving LaGuardia.,

Next week Juniors will receive locks, followed by Seniors.

Teachers appreciate when students let them know when they will be absent; however, parents must be the ones to excuse any absence by contacting the teachers and the Attendance Office. The Yellow Sheet never assumes what a person knows or does not know, so here are some common rules of thought based on educational experiences:

  • Parents only can excuse a child from school.
  • Do not give your child the ability to send/read your NYCSA emails
  • Know the emails and phone numbers the school has for you on file.
  • Students do NOT have Operoo/Forms & Flow accounts. Please do not send them to the office for your account information or to change the email on file. Call our Parent Coordinator, Dr. Tracy Ballas.

We encourage families to read our Electronic Device Policy and refer it when necessary. In summary:

In accordance with New York State's "bell-to-bell" cell phone restriction law and NYC Public Schools Chancellor's Regulation A-413, our school implements this policy to create a distraction-free learning environment that supports student academic achievement, social development, and mental health. This policy applies to all students during the entire school day from arrival to dismissal, requiring all internet-enabled personal devices to be powered off and securely stored upon entering the building.

National Honor Society LaGuardia Chapter National Honor Society LaGuardia Chapter

Welcome back to all our students. Juniors and Seniors, we are giving you some information regarding the National Honor Society.

The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization that recognizes high school students for excellence in Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

  • Scholarship: Demonstrating academic excellence, typically with a minimum GPA/average of 90.
  • Leadership: Showing initiative, guiding others, and taking responsibility in school activities, sports, or community roles.
  • Service: Contributing time and effort to the school and local community through volunteering.
  • Character: Exhibiting integrity, honesty, and respectful behavior as recognized by staff at LaGuardia.

How it Works:

  1. Selection: Students are invited to apply for LaGuardia's NHS chapter, which selects members based on the four pillars above.
  2. Membership: Once inducted, students participate in chapter activities, community service projects, leadership development, and chapter meetings.
  3. Benefits: Membership offers recognition of their achievements, which also strengthens college applications.

When will I be able to apply?

  • Please look for applications in mid-October if you are interested. Only current Juniors and Seniors are able to apply. Students should look for applications in the Yellow Sheet and be prepared to fill out an application ( we have a hard deadline of November 17th) , have a teacher recommendation and be able to show proof of tutoring hours ( minimum 10 hours in tutoring) as well as additional community volunteer hours (30 hours- both at LaGuardia and in the rest of the NYC community). To clarify - regarding the service hours, all 40 hours had to have taken place from January 2026 to the date you put in your application ( Nov.2026). Students' transcripts are also reviewed.

Visit our National Honor Society page on the school's website. Applications available October 26, 2026. Please follow all deadlines and instructions.

Menstrual Product Availability

Per State and local law(Open external link), the DOE is required to provide free menstrual products for students in grades 6–12, which the DOE makes available in female restrooms and single occupancy restrooms. However, as some students (including cisgender girls, and transgender, non-binary, and gender expansive students) may menstruate earlier than grade 6, the DOE expanded the availability of menstrual products to schools with grades 4 and 5 during the 2023-24 school year. At least one restroom (either female or single occupancy) will be equipped with one dispenser in schools that include these grades.

Please note that products should only be available at designated restroom locations and not in the Medical Office. Menstrual products need to be readily available in school restrooms without students having to request them from school staff. Custodial staff will routinely monitor the availability of products in the dispensers and reorder supplies as needed.
