Hello MES Families!

We are cruising through October! These next couple weeks are filled with many activities and events as well. I am looking forward to our conference nights and giving you all the opportunity to connect with your child's teachers. The partnerships between you as parents and the teaching team is so valuable for student success through the school year! If you have not yet signed up for conferences please use this link to do so: https://ptcfast.com/schools/Madeira_Elementary_Schools

I want to give a huge thank you to our PTO and every one of you that have gone above and beyond to keep our teachers fueled and energized! Our Wednesday snacks are such a midweek pick-me-up and they wouldn't be there without those of you that have ordered and sent the goodies to school. So thank you! This treat is quite the excitement on Wednesdays!

As you plan for the week ahead, don't forget we have an early release day this Thursday, dismissal is at 2pm. All changes to PikMyKid will need to be entered no later than 1:15pm on Thursday. Friday there is no school, enjoy your fall break! Take a look at the information below to stay up to date on all things happening around MES!

Take care,

Chandley

It Starts with ME Spirit Tee! It Starts with ME Spirit Tee!

Our new MES PTO tees will be sent home this week!

If you purchased a membership or additional tees through the PTO, these will be sent home with students this week. This tee was designed by one of our now 5th graders, Amalia Kramer. The tee promotes our 'It Starts with ME!' theme.

To celebrate an amazing 1st quarter, we will be rocking this tee or any other Madeira gear to school on the final day of the quarter, this Thursday.

Zucchini!

This month kiddos were given the opportunity to try zucchini in the form of a chocolate zucchini muffin! The muffins were made by our very own Madeira High School students in Mrs. Howell's Creative Foods class. It was a crowd pleaser. Here are some quotes from kids: "It was perfect!" "Can I have the recipe?" "Best veggie tasting ever!" Zucchini has many health benefits. It helps strengthen your bones because it is high in antioxidants, Vitamin K and magnesium and believe it or not, one zucchini has more potassium than a banana. The process of buying the ingredients, baking and eating these muffins is so much fun so here is the link for the Healthy Chocolate Zucchini Muffins. Enjoy! https://ohsnapmacros.com/healthy-chocolate-zucchini-muffins/

Helping Hands Holiday Support Helping Hands Holiday Support

Dear Madeira Families,

As a service to the students and families of our community, the Helping Hands program is intended to facilitate Madeira’s ability to provide support for those of us in need through the school year. We understand that hardships can arise unexpectedly, and we know that there are many people in our town that very much want to help. Helping Hands is an effort to make the connections that help our community be a better place.

IF YOUR FAMILY NEEDS ASSISTANCE:

Families requesting assistance for Thanksgiving or for the Holidays, please reach out directly to your child’s school counselor and/or scan this QR code NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2024 if you are requesting Thanksgiving assistance. While we may not be able to cover every need, we will certainly make an effort to make the holiday season less stressful and more enjoyable for our community members in need. Throughout the process, be assured that procedures are in place to maintain the confidentiality and privacy of everyone involved.

IF YOUR FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO DONATE:

For families who would like to donate, we will be collecting gift cards again this year! We are asking that the value of each gift card not exceed increments of $50. The district-wide gift card collection will begin now and continue through December 8, 2024. Donations can be dropped off to any school building, or sent in with your student in an envelope addressed to a school counselor.

While all gift cards are accepted and appreciated, we are requesting gift cards from the following places:

  • Kroger

  • Target

  • Walmart

  • Amazon

Together, we are all Madeira Strong!

Sincerely,

Helping Hands

Birthday Book Club

Love books and birthdays? Celebrate your child's birthday by donating a book in honor of her/his birthday to the MES Media Center's library collection! This program is supported through our MES PTO. You simply select a book from a curated wishlist. You can buy the book from the Amazon wishlist or through our local Madeira Bookstore, the Bookshelf. Books will be sent directly to MES. Once the book arrives, a personalized birthday book sticker will be placed inside the cover honoring your child's donation and their birthday, and your child will be the first one to check out the new library book! This is a fun way to help enhance our school library collection while also celebrating your child's birthday! Please contact Jessica Johnston, MES PTO library liaison, j.elaine.west@gmail.com with questions.
