6th Grade Student Leaders - September
Each month at P.S. duPont Middle School, 6th graders who demonstrate the qualities of strong student leaders are recognized at lunch, awarded a P.S. duPont Middle School “STUDENT” t-shirt, and are featured in our bi-weekly newsletter. These students excel both academically and behaviorally, set a positive example for their peers, and maximize learning opportunities in and out of the classroom. Character traits such as caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility are just a few of the qualities this month’s student leaders model each day.
September’s Student Leaders are (from left to right): Andrew Yash, Teagan Schmidt, Claire Whitmarsh, Sasha Johnson-Williams, Matthew Schaedler, and Bryan Chen.
We are extremely proud of our Student Leaders and their accomplishments as they continue to build a pathway toward success. Congratulations, Student Leaders!
6th Grade Book Challenge: Read, Report, Recognize, Repeat!
The 6th Grade Book Challenge is officially underway at P.S. duPont Middle School! The challenge is designed to encourage students to read more, build knowledge, strengthen their imagination, improve their skills, and discover new worlds through books.
The challenge runs from September 1 through April 30. Students are encouraged to read books that are at or above their grade level. Once they finish a book, they should let Mrs. Rumanov or Mr. Reggio know and report the title they completed. The challenge operates on the honor system, so students should only report books they have read from beginning to end.
Throughout the year, students will be recognized for their efforts in The Panther Pride Newsletter. At the end of the challenge, a grand prize will be awarded to the 6th grade student who reads the most books!
Reading is about much more than completing pages. Every book gives students an opportunity to grow academically, strengthen their imagination, expand their knowledge, and become a better version of themselves.
Top 5 - 6th Grade Readers
Congratulations to our current leaders in the 6th Grade Book Challenge!
- Advika Bhaskaran — 2,864 pages
- Summer Matthews — 2,256 pages
- Claire Whitmarsh — 2,208 pages
- Dhathri Yashavanth — 2,080 pages
- Nathan Ni — 1,170 pages
Keep reading, Panthers! There is still plenty of time to move up the leaderboard. Check out a book and start reading, a brighter you begins with a book!

Go Guardian Parent
GoGuardian Parent is a companion app designed to help parents and guardians stay informed about their child's online activity on school-issued devices. It provides insights into the websites their child visits, the apps they use, and the amount of time spent online during school hours. The app also allows parents to schedule internet access and block specific websites on managed devices outside of school hours, promoting healthy digital habits and responsible technology use. With GoGuardian Parent, families can work alongside schools to ensure a safe and focused online learning environment for students. See that attachment listed below to install the APP onto your phone, iPad, or laptop.

A Message from the Nurses
Health Screenings
As required, we will screen:
- All students for scoliosis
- All seventh-grade students for vision and hearing
- All students who are new to BSD for vision and hearing
If a screening result is outside the normal range, the nurses will send a letter home with your child and mail a copy to your home address.
Sports Physicals (DIAA Forms)
Students must have a completed DIAA form on file with the nurse each school year before participating in sports tryouts. Paper copies are available in the nurse’s office, or you can download the 2026–2027 DIAA form here.
Emergency Cards
If you have not returned your student’s emergency card, please send it in as soon as possible. Students cannot receive medication from the nurse without an emergency card on file.
Medications
The only medications students may carry with them are prescribed epinephrine and albuterol. If your student needs either medication, please contact us. All other medications must be brought to school by an adult in the original container.
We are always here to support your student. Please reach out with any questions, concerns, or needs. We look forward to a healthy and happy school year!
