November Updates
In the news . . .
Progress continues with career connected learning experiences both in and out of the classroom for students at Bucyrus City Schools, as skills-based and career-driven education works to assist students to find their own True North.
District stakeholders and community-based employers collaborate to identify and align what needs are present in the local workforce with what students are learning, and together work on the best early introduction to build these skills and interests.
BUCYRUS CITY SCHOOLS’ TRUE NORTH PROGRAM STRENGTHENS PATHWAYS FROM CLASSROOM TO CAREER
Additionally, OSU-Mansfield Engineering Club students were able to scale down the manufacturing process with the help of Legos to help teach BMS students to learn about teamwork, efficiency, quality control and even problem-solving and continuous improvement practices used in today’s manufacturing industries.
Bucyrus Staff training expands to include experiences and skills that feed into the high-demand industry of health care and highlights relationships with local employers like AVITA. Teachers focused on a full spectrum of careers that make up the entire healthcare industry, not just direct patient care.

Principal's Message
Bucyrus Elementary Families,
BES continues to be off to an amazing start. It's hard to believe 1st Quarter is already over! We're excited to share with you some highlights from October and upcoming November events.
In the classrooms... We continue to work hard with students to set goals that challenge our students as learners and people. How our academics tie into future careers continues to be a part of every day conversations. The connections students are making are incredible! Teachers are incorporating hands-on learning into math lessons and providing real-world extensions to reading lessons.
In the building... Students enjoyed October's PBIS reward of trick or treating with local businesses in our building. All students enjoyed a special story visitor on 10/30. 3rd Grade rocked their English Language Arts OST. Staff and students worked in collaboration with staff from the Kid Whisperer (Scott Ervin) on bettering our building procedures. Ask your child what the expectations for our instructional hallway are or what they need to do to earn bonus recess!
In the community... We took student representatives to Heckert Nature Preserve as part of Crawford County's kickoff for their America 250 celebration. 4th Graders have been learning life-saving swimming skills at the YMCA. Local businesses joined us for our October PBIS reward.
Building leaders... As part of our school training from the Kid Whisperer, two students from each homeroom in K-5 were selected as class leaders and trained as "SVC" or Student Volunteer Corps. These students work together to prep materials in the cafeteria, help cafeteria monitors and with recess equipment, and are positive role models for peers.
Let's have the BESt year yet!

On the Horizon: Upcoming Events at BES
Family Events
Music Program
4th Graders kicked off our music program season with "Boo!" Throughout the year, students in every grade level will have an opportunity to perform for families.
Family Breakfast
5th Grade families celebrated our first breakfast of the year. Each grade level will have their own month to enjoy a breakfast with a special adult throughout the year. We truly love sharing these moments with our families!
Redmen Ready: PBIS Fun
October's PBIS Event was a huge success as BES students were able to Trick or Treat at tables throughout our building sponsored by local businesses. A HUGE thank you to the following businesses for sponsoring tables and helping to make this an amazing experience for our staff and students: Mane Rage, Bucyrus Police Department, Crawford County Chamber of Commerce, RFS TACKLE, Sturgill Family, Pittman's Cleaning and Restoration, Crawford County Butterfly Foundation, Unger Park, and Crawford County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
All students also enjoyed a fun, interactive story time from the BESt Witch around!
Every Day Counts: Attendance Highlights
Our attendance challenge is still going! Several classes are working to complete the Y or R in Bucyrus Redmen. Classes that completed the letter C got to pick a spirit day for their homeroom.
Attendance Did You Know:
Did you know that the State of Ohio calculates attendance by hours and not days? We are getting a growing number of families that are signing kids out at 3:10 to avoid traffic. These minutes count against your child's attendance. In addition, when you sign your child in late or out early, that counts towards your 10 allowed parental notes for the year. Please contact school administration with any attendance questions you have!
Ms. Hammer's Class: Twin Day
Mrs. Powers's Class: PJ Day
Ms. Lipscomb's Class: Backwards Day
