MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Marauders Families,
As October arrives and the air turns crisp, the changing colors of the season remind us of ongoing growth and transformation at Mitchell High School.
Last week, our Instructional Leadership Team conducted Learning Walks. These walks fostered distributed leadership and strengthened instructional practices through teacher-led reflection and collaboration. Classroom observations produced evidence that the Instructional Empowerment partnership is beginning to shape our classrooms into environments that reduce challenging student behaviors, increase engagement, and improve academic achievement.
We also celebrated academic excellence at the ACCEPT Scholar Ceremony on Monday. This event honored our sophomore, junior, and senior students who are on track for graduation. I would like to thank our Success Team Manager, Ms. Jordan, as well as all the staff who supported her efforts, and all the families who joined us in recognizing these scholars. It was a proud moment for our community.
This week, Mitchell High School continues to align our work with the Unified School Improvement Plan (USIP). Students and staff will participate in the 5Essentials Interim Survey. This process will gather valuable data to guide our efforts toward building a high-functioning school environment.
Wednesday marks the October 1 Student Count Day. This significant event directly impacts our school’s funding and resources. We urge all families to ensure students are present and punctual. Every student that we are able to count truly makes a difference.
Finally, the Future Center is offering a dynamic slate of college and career presentations. These events provide students with an opportunity to interact with admissions and career representatives from various institutions. Universities visiting this week include Regis University, UCCS, University of Northern Colorado, Colgate University, and Colorado State University. Additionally, career-focused sessions will feature representatives from the Air Force ROTC. Here, students can explore leadership, scholarships, and service. ENT Credit Union will also provide insight into professions in finance and community banking. I encourage all students to take advantage of these opportunities. Students must consider how today is shaping their future.
At Mitchell, WINS (We Increase Numbers by believing in our Students) is more than a slogan; it’s a daily commitment. Thank you for being part of a community that believes in every student’s potential to thrive.
George Smith, Principal
FROM ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES
Marksmanship
Mr. Newcomer and his group of marksmen and markswomen had an incredible showing at Pueblo West on Friday. Twenty-five teams across the country were represented and our Marauders, Wally Cassel, Larry Sugia-Royin, Delilah Epps, and Yesenia Puentes Diera were in 4th place among the teams that competed on Friday. The rest of the teams that were not on Friday's bill will compete on Saturday. Congratulations to these four individuals showing that hard work pays off!

FROM ATTENDANCE AND BEHAVIOR
Let's Improve our ATTENDANCE Rate
As Marauders, we believe we building a strong school community to support our students.
Why does Attendance Matter?
Consistent attendance is essential for academic success and personal growth. When students are present, they are more engaged, build stronger relationships, and stay connected to their learning. We ask families to prioritize school attendance and reach out if challenges arise. Together, we can ensure every student has the opportunity to learn and grow every day.
Did you know?
At Mitchell, our current daily attendance rate is 84.5%. This means that, on average, students are missing about 7 days every 9-week quarter. Over the course of the school year, this adds up quickly and can make it harder for students to stay caught up with learning, build strong relationships, and feel connected to school. That’s why making daily attendance a priority is so important—every day in class matters.

MITCHELL SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY COMMIITEE
