Dear Hirsch Hawk Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to everyone who came out for Curriculum Night! Your support means so much, and it shows just how committed our community is to helping our Hawks soar. This year, we need all hands on deck as we work together to move Hirsch from a “C” to an “A.” Our students deserve to attend an A-rated campus, and I know we can achieve it if we stay united—one band, one sound.

Our theme reminds us that this can be the most magical year yet. We want every Hawk to know they already have the magic inside of them and that with hard work and belief, they can reach for the stars.

Here’s how you can help at home:

  • Daily Reading: Encourage your child to read every night. After reading, ask questions like:

    • What was the main idea of the story?

    • Can you summarize what happened in your own words?

    • Why do you think the character did that? (inferencing)

  • Math Practice with iReady: Just 15 minutes a night on iReady can make a huge difference in building math skills and confidence.

It’s important to remember that our new accountability system counts every child’s growth. That means not only must we lift up struggling students, but our highest performers must continue to grow as well. If a student slips backward—even from Masters to Meets—our campus loses points.

Here’s an easy way to picture the achievement levels--Think of a house on a street:

  • Low Did Not Meet / High Did Not Meet – I’m not in the driveway yet.

  • Approaches – I’m passing, but still approaching the standard. (Think of being in the driveway.)

  • Meets – I’ve reached grade-level expectations. (I’ve walked through the front door.)

  • Masters – I’ve mastered the content and I’m more than ready for the next grade. (I’m in the kitchen, ready to eat!)

Even if your child hasn’t taken STAAR yet, the same idea applies—on mClass or MAP testing, they need to be in the green or blue zones to be “in the house.”

Together, we can make sure every Hawk moves forward. Use the Academic Guides below so you can see what your child is learning this year. Thank you for believing in our kids, for supporting our teachers, and for helping us create a magical year where our students learn that they can truly touch the stars.

With Hawk Pride,

Principal Patterson
