Fresh Start: Working Together With New Faces
Starting in a new building can have some challenges in the unknown. Rebecca Gilkey shares her journey from elementary to middle school as a teacher consultant. Watch to learn how she has found a fresh start while working together with new faces.
Boulan Park & Smith Librarian, Christina Chatel, Recognized
Congratulations to Troy School District library media specialist Christina Chatel, whose work was recently featured by the Michigan Education Association! Christina is helping lead a national movement to establish Young Teen Lit, a category of books specifically for readers ages 13–15. Her advocacy for engaging, age-appropriate literature has earned national recognition, including being named a 2026 Library Journal Mover & Shaker.
We are proud of Christina’s leadership, innovation, and commitment to helping students discover a lifelong love of reading!
Optional iPad Insurance Window Open
Each student with an assigned 1:1 iPad who wishes to participate in the Troy School District 1:1 Device Insurance Program will be required to pay an annual insurance premium of $25 per student, not to exceed $100 per family. Kindergarten through 3rd grade students have classroom sets of iPads that are generally not brought home, thus, no personal insurance is needed.
Boulan Park Construction Site Reminder
We are excited about the construction underway at the Boulan Park Middle School site. The demolition of the interior of the building is complete and we are beginning the process of rebuilding. We have been notified by our construction partners that there have been individuals attempting to enter the site. We are asking that you remind your students that the Boulan Park building is an active construction site; it is not a safe place for exploration and it is closed to visitors. We want to make sure that we keep all of our students and families safe during this time. We will keep you updated as construction progresses.
Thank you for your partnership as we move through this exciting time!

Baker PTO Foam Party Brings Community Together
Baker Middle School recently kicked off the school year with a highly successful Foam Party that brought students, families, and staff together for an afternoon of fun and connection. Under beautiful late-summer skies, students enjoyed a memorable celebration while building friendships and strengthening the sense of community that makes Baker such a special place.
The event was made possible through the outstanding efforts of the Baker PTO, dedicated parent and staff volunteers, and our custodial team. Their teamwork and commitment created a welcoming experience that was enjoyed by hundreds of members of the Baker community.
Events like the Foam Party help foster belonging, school pride, family engagement, and set a positive tone for the school year ahead. Baker is grateful for the partnership and support of our PTO and families as we continue making this a great year for all Bobcats.
