What's Blooming @ Columbine
February 2026 - Columbine Elementary
Dear Columbine Families,
We are looking forward to each and every school day as staff and students work to learn and grow each day. As teachers prepare for conferences this month, they will be assessing students in reading and math to show you exactly how far students have come in their learning. Our goal is to connect with 100% of our families - please help us by signing up for a conference with your child's teacher. If you are unable to find a time that works for you, please contact us - we will make time to connect. (Conference sign up links will be sent from the district during the first week of February.)
Master classes will continue throughout second semester for 2nd-5th graders, which means your student will have the opportunity to participate in one of several different community and teacher led enrichment classes on select Fridays. Master classes are a tradition which allow our students to engage in enriching learning experiences while connecting with amazing community members. We work to create a number of unique opportunities for students to expand their learning through music, art, science, economics, sports, crafts, trades, history, etc. If you would be interested in offering a master class for students during our 4th & 5th grade session (beginning April 3rd), please contact our office at 719-686-2300 to volunteer!
There are many opportunities for connection throughout the month of February, and I look forward to seeing you! As always, please reach out with questions. It is an honor to work with your students each day! Thank you for sharing them with us!

Important information to have on your radar...
As a district we have moved from standards-based reporting to traditional grade reporting for grades 3rd-12th. This decision was made and communicated last spring. What does it mean?!
- We are teaching the same things as before!
- We are grading materials the same way based on the same standards!
- We are simply reporting grades on a traditional A - F scale instead of 1 - 4!
Why the change? Grades should communicate how students are doing in a class or subject area. The 1-4 system did not always get the correct messaging across! So what can you expect...
- Kindergarten through 2nd grade will still be graded in a primary manner. They will receive the following marks:
- EE = Exceeding Expectations
- ME = Meeting Expectations
- AE = Approaching Expectations
- UN = Unsatisfactory
- 3rd - 6th Grade will earn A - F to communicate their work in grade level standards.
- A = accurately completing 90 - 100% of grade level work
- B = accurately completing 80 - 89% of grade level work
- C = accurately completing 70 - 79% of grade level work
- D = accurately completing 60 - 69% of grade level work
- F = accurately completing less than 60% of grade level work
Teachers have been marking papers and you should see graded work coming home. If you are seeing incomplete work coming home or work that is completed inaccurately, their grades will reflect this work. If you have typically seen 1's or 2's on your child's report card, you may see C's, D's or F's. Our job remains the same! We are working to understand where students are in their learning and help them grow! If you want to support your child, some simple steps would be:
- Keep reading together at home!
- Work towards building work stamina and help them finish tasks!
- Complete unfinished work that comes home!
- Check over work and correct errors!
We are a team in learning, and I am excited to continue working together to help our children reach their academic potential!
Please join us for parent teacher conferences on February 13th! Teachers are excited to meet with you to discuss your child and their progress so far this school year. Sign up links will be distributed from the district during the first week of February.

Imagine if this summer break was really a break? I’m so proud to share that we’ve planned a program that’ll keep your kiddo engaged, inspired, and having FUN all summer long.
Over 1,000 families shared what they’re looking for in a summer program. With their needs and wants in mind, we bring you: Champions Champ Camp!
- CONVENIENT AND FLEXIBLE. Join Champ Camp for one week or all summer long! Just pick the days or weeks that work for you and we’ll handle the rest.
- DIFFERENT DAILY. No two days are the same. We’ll include STEM experiments, interactive sports, water play, group activities, friendship, and more!
- A SAFE PLACE. When you drop your camper off, you know they’re with people
(and in environments) you already know and trust. - CONFIDENCE. By fall, your child will be more confident with new skills and new friends!
- On-Site FIELD TRIPS. We’ll be bringing the fun to us with petting zoos, foam pits, and visits from the police department, story tellers, and so much more~

Reminders
Winter Weather Procedure
If there is a two hour delay in WPSD, all Columbine students will check in with our delayed start questionnaire, available here. The questionnaire will also be sent to families on the morning of the delay so you can access it easily.
Snow Day Procedure:
If there is a snow day announced for WPSD, Columbine Elementary will be closed. Enjoy the snow day!
Parking Lot Info & Reminders
- Please be mindful of your speed!
- Use the crosswalk!
- If you walk your student up to the doors in the morning, park in the parking lot.
- The upper carpool loop is not for parking - drivers must stay in their vehicles while students get in or out of the car.
- The lower carpool loop is reserved for pre-K and kindergarten families who have their own parking protocols related to the safety of our youngest students.
- The upper parking lot will only be open during dismissal or during special events that occur during the school day.
- As always, if your student is arriving late, you must walk up to the office to check them in.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep students safe and accounted for and safe on our campus!
Leave Toys and Trinkets at Home
Please note that toys and trinkets or other distracting accessories and/or personal items are not permitted at school. We appreciate your support to keep such items at home, so they do not become a distraction the in instructional environment. Students will be asked to store distracting items if they become an issue during the school day. If needed, items will be kept in the main office for parent pick up at the end of the day.
Bring Gym Shoes
Please remember to send a pair of shoes for your student to wear for gym class! Proper shoes help students to stay safe and be able to participate appropriately in class. Questions? Connect with our PE teacher, Ms. Goldberg.
Immunization Requirements
As a reminder we are required by the State of Colorado to have an up-to-date immunization record, in-process plan or an exemption for each of our students. Immunization requirement notifications were sent out this week to our students who are still missing required documents. If you have any questions about your student's immunization status, please reach out to our health staff:
