WELCOME
Dear Broadway Bound and Heart & Soul,
Congratulations on being chosen for one of Boulder Creek High School's exceptional show choirs for the 2026–2027 school year! Whether you're returning to the stage or joining us for the first time, I am ecstatic to embark on this journey with you.
As we prepare for the exciting season ahead, I want to ensure you have all the information you need to thrive in our show choir program. Participating in a show choir is not just about singing and dancing; it's a vibrant co-curricular experience that fosters commitment, teamwork, and dedication both in and out of the classroom. I will keep you updated as plans unfold, ensuring you have everything necessary for success.
Being a part of a show choir is an extraordinary opportunity that comes with both privilege and responsibility. When we come together with preparation, focus, and mutual support, there's no limit to what we can achieve. Our goal for this year is to strive for excellence not only in our performances but also in our character, attitude, and leadership. Let's uplift each other, celebrate our victories, and embrace the challenges that help us grow stronger together.
I'm looking forward to collaborating with all of you to make the 2026–2027 season one for the books in Boulder Creek Show Choir history. Let's create unforgettable memories and accomplish wonderful things together! I can't wait to see what we will achieve!
Expectations
As members of Broadway Bound and Heart & Soul, each chorister should try to adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Attend all rehearsals, performances, competitions, and required events.
2. Arrive prepared, focused, and ready to contribute.
3. Practice music, choreography, and performance material outside of rehearsals.
4. Demonstrate respect toward teammates, directors, clinicians, parents, and competitors.
5. Maintain a positive attitude, especially during challenging moments.
6. Support our program's culture through encouragement, accountability, and kindness.
7. Represent Boulder Creek High School with professionalism on and off the stage.
If you become ill, please take the necessary time to recover to avoid spreading your sickness to your teammates. Keep in touch with your student leaders/director and, when possible, stay updated on any missed material. Return to school and rehearsals as soon as you are healthy.
Show choir is a thrilling team experience where every member plays a vital role! When one person is absent, the whole group feels the impact, highlighting our interconnectedness. Taking care of yourself isn't just about personal growth; it's about supporting your teammates who rely on you. By embracing preparation, consistency, and personal responsibility, we can create a strong, resilient ensemble ready for greatness. While talent is valuable, it is the commitment, work ethic, and character that truly elevate our team. Together, we can achieve incredible things, and each of you contributes to making that happen—let's shine brightly as one!
Rehearsals
Our daily rehearsals during the regular school day will lay a strong foundation for our show choir preparation. Additionally, starting August 10th, we will begin our engaging after-school rehearsals for each ensemble:
-Heart & Soul: Mondays, 2:30–4:00 PM
-Broadway Bound: Tuesdays, 2:30–4:00 PM
These rehearsals are essential to our collective success and growth as performers. Throughout the season, we will have the fantastic opportunity to work with professional choreographers, dance technicians, vocal coaches, and clinicians who will inspire us and elevate our performances. Alongside our dedicated dance captains and Mr. Douglas, we will refine our choreography, enhance our vocal skills, and polish the details that make our performances truly shine.
Your consistent attendance, preparation, and enthusiastic participation are vital for the entire ensemble's success. Each of you plays a crucial role in helping us reach our highest potential!
We will also have additional choreography rehearsals with Bubba (our choreographer) scheduled throughout the season. You can find these important dates on the Choir Important Dates page. Please review them and mark your calendars! These intensive weeks in August, September, November, and January are critical for developing our competition sets and provide invaluable opportunities to learn and perfect our choreography with one of the industry's most esteemed professionals.
Show Choir Fair Share
Participating in the Boulder Creek Show Choir requires a yearly Fair Share contribution, which is crucial to enriching our program! This contribution helps cover essential aspects like clinicians, choreography, music, costumes, props, transportation, competition expenses, and instructional materials—all aimed at creating an unforgettable experience for our talented students.
For the 2026–2027 season, the Fair Share contribution is $450 per student. While this amount does not cover the full cost of participation, it is vital to maintaining the exceptional instruction, performance opportunities, and competitive experiences that our students truly enjoy throughout the year.
2026-2027 Fair Share Payment Schedule:
August 7th - $175
September 18th - $100
October 15th - $175
We recognize that every family's financial situation is unique, and our top priority is ensuring that every student can participate, regardless of their financial circumstances. If you feel you might need assistance, please reach out to Mr. Douglas or our Booster Club early. Together, we can explore available options and resources to support your family.
All-State Show Choir Auditions
An incredible opportunity for our show choir members in the fall is the chance to audition for the Arizona All-State Show Choir! This esteemed ensemble gathers some of the very best singers, dancers, and performers from across the state for an enriching weekend of learning and performance.
I wholeheartedly encourage all eligible members of Broadway Bound and Heart & Soul to take the plunge and audition. This experience offers not just a shot at state-level recognition but also a fantastic way to enhance your musicality, performance skills, and leadership within our program.
Last year was an amazing showcase of talent, with Boulder Creek High School celebrating 21 students selected for the choir, putting us among the elite programs in Arizona. We are proud of this achievement and can't wait to see what this year's talented individuals will accomplish!
For those ready to audition, while we will spend class time preparing, you should also be prepared to invest time outside of rehearsal to master the audition material, hone your vocal techniques, and polish your performance skills. I'll share essential information about audition requirements, materials, deadlines, and preparation opportunities as it becomes available.
Whether you aim to secure a place in the ensemble or to challenge yourself through the audition journey, I encourage you to seize this opportunity. Remember, growth happens when we step outside of our comfort zones, and the experience you gain while preparing for All-State is invaluable, no matter the outcome.
Competitions, Performances, and Choir Tour
Being a member of Broadway Bound and/or Heart & Soul is an incredible adventure filled with creativity, teamwork, and unforgettable experiences. Throughout the season, we work hard to master music, perfect choreography, and bring powerful stories to life on stage. Our performances, competitions, clinics, festivals, and annual choir tour are the exciting culmination of all our effort and dedication.
Please review the Important Dates document carefully and mark your calendars. Attendance at all scheduled performances, competitions, clinics, festivals, and rehearsals is a requirement for our success. Unlike many activities, a show choir relies on the commitment of every member. Each performer plays an essential role in telling our story, creating visual impact, and producing the sound that makes our ensemble successful.
One of the highlights of our season is the annual choir tour, which provides students with opportunities to perform, compete, learn from outstanding clinicians, experience new places, and create lasting memories with teammates. Families should anticipate the choir tour cost to generally range from $700 to $1,000 per student, depending on the destination, travel arrangements, lodging, meals, and event participation fees. I will provide detailed information and payment schedules following approval from our school board.
These events are about much more than trophies, rankings, or awards. They offer opportunities to represent Boulder Creek High School, learn from expert adjudicators and clinicians, connect with performers from other schools, and create lifelong memories with teammates. These moments will genuinely resonate long after high school!
As we travel and perform, we're proud ambassadors for our choir program, our school, and our community. We uphold the values of professionalism, respect, gratitude, and sportsmanship at all times, recognizing that our behavior offstage is just as essential as our performances onstage.
By joining our show choir family, you're making a commitment to be present and actively contribute to the success of our entire team. Together, we will create performances that fill us with pride and experiences that we will cherish forever! Let's make this an amazing journey together!
This Year's Competition Show Themes
Heart & Soul – Joan of Arc
Heart & Soul's 2026–2027 production tells the story of Joan of Arc, a young woman who found the courage to stand firm in her convictions despite overwhelming opposition. Through themes of faith, perseverance, sacrifice, and leadership, this show will explore what it means to rise above doubt and inspire others through unwavering belief in a greater purpose. Joan's story reminds us that courage is not the absence of fear—it is choosing to move forward despite it.
Broadway Bound – The Dust Bowl
Broadway Bound's production is inspired by the Dust Bowl era of the 1930s, one of the most challenging periods in American history. This story follows individuals and families facing hardship, uncertainty, and displacement as they search for hope and opportunity. Through powerful music and storytelling, the show will highlight resilience, determination, community, and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
Building Our Culture
As we enter this exciting new season, let's remember that our daily choices intentionally shape our culture.
Every rehearsal, interaction, and word of encouragement contributes to the warm environment we are creating together. The strongest ensembles are not just about talent; they flourish when members truly care for one another and unite towards a shared goal.
Leadership is a powerful form of influence and service. Regardless of titles, your actions set an example for others. Let's choose to uplift one another, work diligently, maintain a positive spirit, and cultivate a choir room where everyone feels valued and inspired to thrive. Utilizing every opportunity to build something incredible together—let's make the most of it!
Looking Ahead
This season promises to be an incredible adventure! While we will face long rehearsals, intricate choreography, and challenging music, these obstacles are what truly shape us into exceptional performers and individuals.
I am genuinely excited about the amazing stories we have the chance to share this year and even more thrilled about the journey we will embark on together to bring them to life.
Thank you for your commitment to this experience and for choosing to be part of something greater than yourself. I can hardly wait to dive in and start this journey with all of you! Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
Musically yours,
Mr. Douglas
